When I saw the title of this post I expected much worse. As Oxy said, you got off pretty lucky. I've seen some pretty horrific deer clashes- usually in big gas guzzlers. I can only imagine how the MINI would handle a full-on hit.

Glad you're okay!

you see one deer chances are good the rest are behind him i always slow to almost a stop when i see them even on the side of the roads for some reason they always head for the front of the car and can cause some bad damage or even worse

Hit one

Hit a deer two years ago with my Mercury Sable. I was in Michigan, heading home to Maryland. It was around 6am, and I was on the highway doing 70mph. Never saw the deer until we hit it head on. Pulled over, and checked the car - it looked like the engine compartment was fine, just the hood, bumper, etc damaged. I was concerned since I had a 600 mile drive left to get home.

The final bill was $5200. Never found the deer, but they all are uninsured anyway.

Sorry to hear your deer story. But, now you are part of the deer smacker club!

OUCH! My sympathy to you. I have had a few close calls myself. I am not part of the Deer Smacker Club(that's funny ) but it does make you want to go out and shot them when you see them.

Wow. For a deer strike that's almost unscathed. Hopefully the body shop will get it all sorted out quickly and the frame is unhurt.

State Farm sent a guy out to the body shop for my repair last year but the body shop was on their list of approved places so I knew before I went that it was a non issue.

Let us know how it turns out, glad it's not scheduled to hurt the mod budget

V6 charger or the V8?

Yeah im going to one of their approved spots. Hopefully they do a good job and make it good as new. I wonder if i can ask them to order a hood with the stripes on it (is that OEM or is that just vinyl that people apply?)

I just need to decide if i want to get the OBX semi catback (you have to weld it to your exhaust..) for 250$ or if i want to get a one-ball. What do you guys think? Im going to buy this intake off of a user here. So Ive got the 17% pulley already, intake exhaust and tune incoming. Should I get injectors before the tune? (theyre expensive though arent they?)

And yeah its v6. Terribly slow.

They are just vinyl that you apply (I suppose one could paint them). If it is like my repair, they actually recommended waiting for the paint to "cure" before applying the stripes. Shop said at least 30 days, but I waited a few months as I didn't want to do it in the cold of winter.

You got off easy...

my bill was over $7k.... hood, headlight, fog light, bumper cover, bumper brace, radiator support, radiator, AC condensor, IC cover, Hoodscoop, and on and on and on.....

And it was a very small deer!

My wife was taking my oldest son to school about 18 years ago and hit an elk in our Subaru. She was going about 50 mph and a herd of them ran across a 2 lane road. She had no chance to stop. The elk hit the front of the car and landed on the windshield. It crushed the whole front of the car in. It pushed both pillars and the front windshield about 2 inches from her face. She had elk blood and hair on the front of her shirt. The car was a complete total! The police estimated the elk at 450 pounds or so. It was on the side of the road for about 1/2 an hour foaming at the mouth. All of a sudden it got up and ran off into the woods. I'm pretty sure it died later. The police and the EMT's said if it had been any other small car she most likely have been killed or very seriously injured. Probably my son as well. As it was they both walked away with zero injuries. The Good Lord had angels protecting my family that day. I firmly believe that!

Our insurance company paid the vehicle off and we put a few bucks in our pocket to buy another car.

You have to keep in mind, that roads and especially highways create an unnatural uncrossable divisions for wildlife, dividing ecosystems and restricting natural migration. Those animals are probably scared shitless to cross the road but have no choice. I am glad you weren't hurt.

True... it's really our fault that any deer get hit at all. They lived there peacefully until we came along and built highways through their habitats.

My sympathies for both your car and the deer. Hopefully your MINI'll be back to 100% in no time!

Where in NOVA did you hit the deer? I hit one in Nov on Braddock Rd. in Clifton...only had the 2010 for a month. :( I got lucky though...just cracked the grill but had to replace the compressor. Also there is a tiny dent that they don't think they can pull out without repainting it, so I'm leaving it. It's hard to notice it and I dont want to paint a car 5 months old.

I haven't seen any deer in our neighborhood, even though there's a deer xing sign. However, 1 of my neighbors told me she's seen them, so I've just been lucky. Now that it's warm, I'm looking in2 buying 1 of those deer whistles, so they'll know I'm coming and will scatter 'til I'm long gone!

Hope all goes well w/your MINI, and I'm soooo happy u weren't hurt!

Deer hit

I hit a deer on the Beltway Sat morning doing 65 mph. Mini's at the body shop. The front left corner is smashed in, including the headlight and the body. I don't know how much internal damage it has sustained. I'm hoping insurance covers the cost.

Has anyone else had similar deer experiences and if so, what has your insurance experience been?

I just want my Mini back! :-(
