Clear tail light problems

i hope someone can help me here. i just installed the clear tail light housing with all new bulbs. Yellow bulbs in the center holes for turn signals, red bulbs in the bottom holes for driving/stopping and red bulbs in the top holes for..(i'm not sure) as now the top lights dont lite up for anything. i didnt look before swapping out housings, so i don't know if the top set of bulbs do anything. Additionally, are the stop light supposed to come on even if the car is turned off and no key in the ignition? mine dont come on when the car is "off" without keys. is this normal? Someone with clear lights-please help! i thought the top set of bulbs were just plain driving lights, but not mine. i don't see what i did wrong just by swapping out different color bulbs, shouldn't had made a difference. I must admit, they look SIC!!

The difference with the clear taillight is the clear lens and the bulbs with color coating. Otherwise clear taillights operate exactly same as standard taillights, and it sounds like yours is doing exactly that. Are your clear lights behaving any differently from your old ones?

The top bulbs are the rear fog and only turn on if you have the rear fog option and switch them on from the toggle panel. The top bulbs in your old lights wouldn't have turned on either if you don't have the rear fog option. There is a mod to make them turn on along with the brakes.

RKW, since i'm usually the only driver of my MCS, i've never seen it driving away from me, so i never paid attention to what lights up and what doesn't. But from what you're describing, it's working just fine. Now, if you get in your car and step on the brakes with no keys, do you brake light come on? Mine don't, but then again, i've never paid attention. Mine brake lights come on when you step on the brake pedal with the car in the "on" position, even if the car is not fully on.

Your lights sound normal. You won't see brake lights unless the key is turned at least to the "on" position. Your headlights won't function without the key either, but the parking lights will work without a key.

If it's not too much trouble...can we see your boot? Any pictures with the new lights installed?

No prob & you are welcome!

Here's a quick quote from this post about pictures: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-pictures.html

Once uploaded, right click on Properties, then copy the URL. Click on the little yellow box that looks like a mountain (LOL!) "Insert Image" ^^^up there on your tool bar. Then paste your url into that and hit submit. It will show you the picture before you actually post here. That way you can see if it works or not. It only took me FOREVER to figure it out, so don't feel bad...

I hope that helps. Don't feel pressured to post picts, I was just curious how your new lights looked.

Happy motorin'

Also, if you have an 02-04 your top two bulbs are the fog lights.

I must say, all you guys ROCK! it seems all of my lights are working just fine-i love it. I hate when something doesn't work right on my car. My wife calls if "OCD", i call it "car-nut". Not4no1, thanks for the link on how to post pictures. i now can create my very own gallery of picture and waste more time looking at my car instead of working (i already spend hours on this site as is).

I used this mod on my old '02 MCS: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-mod-pics.html. In the most simple form, all you need to do is take a thick paper clip (the ones that are about 2" long and about 3/32" in diameter) and connect pins 1 and 4 on the back of the wiring harness. Straighten out the clip, then snip off the needed length, to include about 1/2" length for each end that slides into the wire slots (i.e. the entire piece will look like a really large staple).

If you take the time, you can even trace out the circuit board etchings and see how these two circuits are laid out. Just remember the top bulbs only come on when you touch the brakes. Only the bottom bulbs will light up when you turn on your parking or headlights.

The best part: you only have to pay for the paper clip!
