New iPhone app - MINI Link
There must be something wrong with this app. It doesn't matter when I turn it on and how far out I go on my map (whether it includes all of California or all of the US) there is never ever another MINI that it can find. I highly doubt that my MINI is the only one.

I think the answer is that the app has to be running for anyone to be able to "see" you on the map. If that's the case, it's virtually worthless. In fact, think about it.. there's really no other way for the app to be aware of other Minis unless they have the app running too. Nobody is going to be tooling around with the app running full-time, thus we never see anybody out there. Bummer, because it's a cool idea, and I'm sure there are tons of iPhone/Mini owners.
I just found this app and i'm running it, can't seem to find anybody in the NYC area (im on long island) either!
Same here.

I've had this for 2 or 3 weeks, and it is possible to occasionally see another Mini somewhere. It really is pretty useless for the reason Kevin points out, but it does seem like a cool idea since only other enthusiasts would typically be using the software. As good as (or maybe better than) a wave.
Is there a feedback site for this app?

Unfortunately, I think it's a limitation of the iPhone itself. You can only run one app at a time.
Okay, I just checked and success!!! I sent a virtual wave to someone named Curtis and someone named Dan. Curtis is 402 miles from me, Dan 2452 miles away. I still don't "see" your MINIs on the map, but it says you are there. All I see is mine.
I got it too. Theres a black MINI in Las Vegas that was found, but thats the only one so far. The local mini shop, Kensington Motorcars, is already bookmarked as a place of interest so thats cool.

For Canadians, if you set up a US iTunes account and log in using it, then you can download apps destined for the US. As for having this app run all the time, you can do this if you jailbreak your iPhone.
bentyyc, I don't remember who but I sent a wave to someone down in Mexico. Of course, that could mean many things. One of the things is that the person has a US iTunes account and logged on while in Mexico. As many MINI owners that there are in Mexico, I would presume there would be far more than that one I saw.
Btw to get around the problem of not being able run anything else while using the MINI program is you can Jailbreak your iPhone and use a program called Backgrounder to run the MINI program in the background... I did this and it works fine it seems
I checked a few times today and was able to see around 20 MINI owners in total. Every time I sent a wave, unless it said the person's name was "Driver," b/c I didn't want to accidentally keep waving to the same person over and over! So it looks like it is catching on, but so far I have only received ONE wave from someone named Marshall. So hello Marshall, whomever you are.
Oh, and to the rest of you: check to see if your name is still in the app. I know I had put my name in but today it was reading "Driver" for me too, until I edited my user profile again.
