Felt like I was in the Italian Job

San Francisco and its environs are havens for MINIs (and even a few Minis). There are probably more MINIs per capita in San Francisco than maybe most other cities in the country.

So it wasn't all THAT surprising yesterday, when heading home from a trip to the grocery store, that I, in my PW/B MINI fell in line behind a CR/W MINI, and then a blue/white (EB? I'm not sure - there are so many blues!) MINI pulled up behind me. For about maybe half a mile, the three of us were all in line.

I kept waiting for the signal to start the stunt driving, but it never came, but for a few minutes there, I felt like I was in the Italian Job. Put a grin on my face the whole way home.

And that is just one of the many reasons I love my MINI! I can't imagine looking around at 3 or 4 other Camrys, or Prii, or Accords and feeling like I was in a movie! Or like I was part of a (not-so) secret club with the other like cars around me. But every time I see another MINI, I do. I feel like every one of us knows something that the rest of the driving public doesn't, and that's why we have MINIs.

The same thing happen with me once!! We were all making a left turn on a 3 lane one way street, but this car was going the wrong way so we all had to quick steer to the right to avoid him. Sure it wasn't like 50 MPH, more like 15 MPH but it was still cool none the less.

I see quite a few MINIs in Boulder, so I'm hoping to have a similar experience some time soon.

We have a few where I live, but there's only one other with the same paint scheme as mine. Just about 30 minutes ago, he pulled up next to me at a stop light. We bonded. Good times!

Where I work, another woman has a PW/B '08 MC with sports stripes and rotator spoke wheels, and sunroof. Almost a dead ringer for my Reg, except 1) she never washes it (the shame!) and 2) I have UJ side scuttles and rear plate (as well as vanity plates). Oh and 3) hers is an auto.

And to put that in perspective, there are only about 20 or so employees, maybe only half of whom drive to work.

I wish I could see more Clubbies in my city. Sadly, there are a few MINI owners who think the Clubman isn't even a MINI! When I was visiting a cousin in San Francisco for her wedding last month, I counted a whopping 25 MINIs but NO CLUBMEN! Not even one.

And oddly, I was wondering if there were any other MINI owners in my town yesterday when suddenly, one pulled in front of me out of nowhere! Then another zipped past me on the left. And today, another one on the freeway. But sadly, even in my town, I've seen only three Clubbies in nine months.

We have just over 1200 employees where I work, and I think there are only 5 Mini's. We usually work different shifts, so we rarely see each other.
I followed one in this morning, but then I got stopped for a vehicle search (It's always a good idea to stop at 6 am for a couple of guys with Barretta 9mm's and AR-15's. )
Met up with him in the parking lot. Kinda cool.
