Is it just me?

Is it just me or did everyone who recently bought a MINI got free rubber floor mats....and if you did what was the dealers reasoning of why they are free? MOS said that because I was a working student they're all mine, and ive heard other reasoning for the mats. I think there always free.

I got free MCS mats too, but I like to believe my MA when he said I was special. He probably meant very special.

It may a new thing, who knows? The rules have changed a bit in car sales lately...maybe this is MINI's riff. If they are free, great....if you're not "special" just buy 'em!!!

Nobody mentioned anything to me but the regular carpet mats were in place when I picked my Clubman up. I never actually met my MA.

Previous cars I've always bought the rubber mats for myself as they are great for collecting pine needles and winter detritus and easily hosed off.

I must be hard on mats. My one-year-old Mazda3 (8,000 miles) had the rubber mats already worn through when I sold it. I decided for my new MINI to get cocomats. By the time they arrived (about 1500 miles) my carpet mats were already somewhat scuffed and worn.

I asked for the S rubber mats, but received the regular MINI mats. I think they will wear out in a month or two (they are paper thin). Congrats on the free mats.

Same as annasassy86, great MA and choice of which mats I wanted as well as my MA driving to my work the next day to complete inspection and fill the tank with premium. And another few niceties since pickup when I sometimes stop by the dealership. It does help that its my second MINI I've bought from them and I keep on coming back....

Did you ask for them?

Probably not a huge profit margin on 'em. We asked ("demanded" ... yeah right) that we get mats... after all it's all we get to "negotiate". We asked what other free stuff we could get and we got the key chains, T-shirts and don't remember what else... they were low on supplies. Oh, my MA did his own interpretive Napoleon Dynamite dance for us (after we caught him boogy-ing down in a "dance off" contest)... it wasn't pretty but a good effort. Also we got to sit in (and drool on) the special classic Mini they had locked up in the showroom.

"Free" is a violation of the laws of physics...

There is no such thing as "free". Somewhere the cost of floor mats is factored in and you receive them, or it's not and you pay for them separately.

There had been no mention of floor mats with MA at all.

A pleasant surprise on delivery was to see that the MINI Rubber Floor Mats were installed Front/Rear (no Boot).

I never cared for 'rubber' floor mats, but these are excellent, fit well, *don't slide around* and best of all (considering 'turn-fun' and 'cup-holders') they hold a 'big-spill' within their raised border.

*Important to confirm that the special velcro discs are installed under rear corners of driver's side.*

Now that I have them, I would have paid the cost for them if necessary and prefer them over carpet or fibre type mats.

Floor mats

All you have to do is ask your MA. In addition to front and rear mats we also got rubber boot mat, windscreen and also the stuffed bulldog was in the back seat.

Awe... you got a windscreen AND a stuffed bulldog? Did you get all weepy when you saw it? That was sweet.

We had our pick of "free" stuff but like I said, there really wasn't much there. Also, Hurricane Ike had just blasted through there... people lost their homes... so we felt like we didn't want to be asking for too much. It was a weird time.

Oh I did ask if we could have the giant Disco ball ... the answer was . Would have been weird driving with a giant disco ball and the top down anyway. Surely someone would have been blinded!

Got mine "free" when I picked mine up. My MA also threw in a matching one for the boot as well.

MoS.. MINI of Sterling, VA I'm guessing. Anyways, that's where I bought my MINI too. Back then I was shopping around and went up to Tate MINI(aka MINI of Annapolis as I see its now called) near Annapolis and had them run some estimates. The guy offered to 'throw in some floor mats' for free if I bought with them plus he said the dealer processing fee was lower there or something. It was a lure for sure, but I do live in The Commonwealth so I decided to see if I could bargain with MoS with the new info I had. Needless to say, MoS also threw in a 'free set of floormats' to match MoA's offer. They couldn't match the processing fee though but I bought from MoS because of convenience and proximity to where I live. BTW, MoS gave me the carpeted floor mats not the full-on rubber ones.

It was the only concession made in my negotiation. I'm pretty sure he would not have included them if I hadn't insisted.

I gave that back when I got the loaner car with 2 gallons of gas! R56 gas gage not very accurate so much for the 1/2 tank.

Only thing free is the coffiee at the dealer! mmm maybe the MINI will run on that! Has to be better than the winter gas we have now.

Back in May, bought my current car for MSRP with carpet mats and a $300 store credit thrown in. Spent that on a MINI piece of luggage, some shirts, caps, etc. We have already negotiated a "discount" rate on port-installed JCW body kit for my incoming car, I suspect when the time comes they will still desire MSRP but there will likely be a trade-in to negotiate. A friend of mine is trying to sell my current car through his leasing company, may get lucky there and get nearer to retail.

I paid for carpet mats, got rubber ones thrown in when my car was mis-built (wrong wheels). Parts was closed so I had to come back for both sets and again for the wheels and I was happy to get it all for MSRP back then (August '07).
