Too good to be true
I've been checking the local classifieds to get a feel for prices so i am ready to shop for a used Mini come spring,yesterday i stumbled across this ad in the local bargain hunter http://montreal.en.craigslist.ca/cto/915487216.html
Surely must be a typo and its missing a 1 in front of the price so i send an email to verify and this is what came back =

My spider senses are telling me SCAM
Any one else got issues with this ad ,I suppose if i got some one in Alberta to go check it for me and it was the real deal they would probably buy it for themselves on the spot..

My 2003 Mini Cooper S is still for sale and I confirm the price of $5950. The car has never been wrecked or damaged, the car is in excellent condition.I haven't experienced any mechanical/electrical problems with it.The car is registered in Canada, has a clear and clean title and you will not have any problems to register the car in your name. All the manuals, title and the original documentation come along with the car. I will provide you also the Used Vehicle information package. The total price that I 'm asking, including shipping and insurance fees will be $5950. I must inform you that I am located in De Winton, Alberta . I have to sell the car at a lower price due to some family problems. The car is certified and e-tested.
If you are interested we can use a third party escrow service agent that will provide 100% protection for buyer and seller and to handle this whole process for us.

This Mini has never been smoked in and is in excellent condition! If you do a search on NAM for Craigslist you will see this is very much like other MINI's for sale in the states that was a scam. Buyer Beware.

The wording of the response you received is troubling. There are some common usage syntax issues that sound a lot like those offers to share in millions of Nigerian dollars. I would strongly suggest avoiding any further contact with those people. Your TGTBT radar is telling you something. Listen to it.

Yeah, there's something wrong there for even a used 2003 to be at that low a price..particularly from someone needing money. Plus..hmmm..how can you have a 6 speed manual and an auto transmission at the same time?

If you run a search in the Canadian white pages phone directory, there is no listing for a Linda Mart or L. Mart in the De Winton, AB area. Trust your instincts and run fast in the other direction!

Sorry, but the craigslist user address you recently mailed (sale-915487216@craigslist.org) does not seem to be valid. It could be you're trying to respond to a very old posting, or that the user has not requested anonymous email forwarding. Please check the address and try again..
So i guess i've learned to Watch out for items being sold in winton Alta.

CraigsList, Kjiji, and eBay often have these scams.
What's fun, is playing with the scammer! Telling them you have someone nearby to look at the car, or that YOU will set up the escrow, etc.

I had a similar experience as this but they claimed to be in KT. The first hint to the whole TGTBT (besides the $5950 price) was that they listed the installed options instead of listing the packages installed, any true MINI owner would list the packages not the options contained in them. I reported them to the autorities and forwarded all email correspondance as well. I don't think there is anything they can/will do but at least it's on file. Why don't these dirtbags use a honda fit for there scam!! Don't they realize us MINI owners are smarter than they are?
