Premium Fuel in the Southeast

I'm in North Alabama. I went to fill my 07 MC up yesterday at the Shell I normally use. Bags on Premium 93 and bags on mid 89. Went to an exxon, bags on both Premium and Mid range fuel. Finally found a top tier Connoco station with 93 octane premium and filled up. Anyone else in the Southeast having difficulty finding Premium fuel for their Mini since the post Gustav and Ike hurricanes?

I know the manual says minimum acceptable is 87 octane, but I can't get myself to put it in.

Yes, we are having the same promblem here in Greenville South Carolina.
Apparently the oil barons have figured that if they give us little dribbles of fuel that we'll be more willing to pay over $4 per gallon.

In most cases the station around the corner from your house will have 87 one day and 93 the next.

I don't believe there is a true shortage, otherwise the shortage would have to be fuel trucks.

Enterprise, AL - about 2/3 of the stations here are out of everything but regular. Still getting it at AAFES but not top tier.

Same in Nashville. Very few stations have premium. Most just have regular.

Stopped on I20 about 40 miles from Atlanta and the station had premium, also back in Chattanooga plenty of gas including premium.
As usual I guess it just depends on where you are.

Same thing here in Miami--sometimes 93 is available, sometimes not. I put in a little 87 octane the other day out of desperation. I apologized to my MCS. And I know it was my imagination, but I swear I felt better acceleration in 2nd!

Unfortunately there is still a huge fuel distribution problem in the Southeast after Hurricane Gustav and Ike and there have been cases of what I have now dubbed "Fuel Rage" because fights have been breaking out at gas stations for line cutting.

They say that distribution will increase soon although that is of little comfort for those experiencing the shortage in their areas right now.

Living in South Florida I know all about fuel shortages after hurricanes hit and near zero distribution to refill the gas stations yet alone not having power for the fuel pumps.

Anyway I hope that the fuel shortage ends real soon for everyone in the affected areas.

Yes, premium is at a premium , I've been using 89 octaine with no noticable difference. I wont hurt to use a lower grade fuel ocaisonally.

I admire you guy's who can even get 93. Out here in CA at least in Northern California Premium=91. At any normal service station you can only get up to 91 Octane, probably because of some emission standards here in CA. Although there is no shortage, 93 isn't even available. However, if you head up to Sear's Point (now Infenion Raceway) I think you can get up to 110 Octane at a service station there.
I hope that it gets better for you guys!!

In central Flroida I haven't seen any sign of a gas shortage. No problem at all. Weird b/c I figured I would see the problem, but nope not here. At least, I'm not seeing it.

took me about 10 minutes to figure out that "bags" isn't a cool new slang for filling up.

i'd love to try out some 93.. cause the $9.26 106 octane they sell in the ritzy areas is way too much for regular driving. Good luck to those in the SE w/ shortages.

Still no Premium inside the Atlanta perimeter that I've been able to find. Even Regular is still scarce

I got premium at Sams Club today for $3.96. All of the stations along Lee Hwy had premium but at higher costs.

Funny thing is, my regular station here in Greenwood said they're getting regular deliveries, but people are freaking out and filling up when they don't need to so the tanks aren't lasting like they usually would.

A friend of mine just returned from Charlotte and said he had trouble finding ANY gas.......tried 6 stations before he found one selling regular, and the limit was $25 worth of gas (about enough to get him out of the area.) Tough situation for those of you in the SE.

Thank the MINI Gods I am in the Richmond VA area . We have no shortages of any grades here. I have seen one or two stations with bags on one or two particular days, but I pass them the next day and bags are removed. The cheapo East Coast up the road from my home is only selling regular right now, but all of the top tier stations that I always use (Chevron, Texaco, Shell) are filled to the rim .

There's a place in Tracy where you can get race gas out of the pump as well.

From what I understand, in anticipation of the hurricanes hitting the Texas gulf coast where the refineries are, they shut them down and secured them. Meanwhile, people were still filling up at stations, emptying the stations tanks. So there was no fuel in the distribution pipeline. It is taking a bit longer than anyone would like for all those stations to get their gas deliveries.
