I've only had my MINI since June 9th and I have a naggingly stupid question for all of you:

What is a Mini R59?
What is a Sidewalk?

Sorry to sound so "Mingorant"...

R59 might be the model number for the 2009 convertable.

Sidewalk is a special trim package that was offered on the 07-08 MINI convertables. Not sure if those years are right.

Actually the '09 cabrio will be the R57.

The R60 is the coming mini-SUV, which you can learn more about here:
http://www.motoringfile.com/section/r60/

Some information on the R60 has also come out under the R59 designation -- but it looks like it will in fact be the R60.

Correct about the Sidewalk dates: available April of '07 through the present (although dealers stopped taking orders in June and there is no talk of continuing into the 2d gen).

So the R59, R60, etc., are just style numbers or something? Does every Mini have one of those numbers? Or are they special editions or something?

Internal designations

All Mini models have R-series model numbers assigned to them. These are a legacy of the Mini's original development within Rover Group. The following designations are known:[14]
  • R50: "Mk I" Mini One and Cooper (2001-2006)
  • R52: "Mk I" Mini Convertible (2005-2008)
  • R53: "Mk I" Mini Cooper S (2001-2006)
  • R55: "Mk II" Mini Clubman, S and D (2008-present)
  • R56: "Mk II" Mini One, Cooper, S and D (2007-present)
  • R57: "Mk II" Mini Convertible (2009-present)
  • R60: Possible future four-wheel drive Mini

Excellent! That's exactly what I was wondering! There are so many MINI descriptions like the "R_ _" the "D" the "S" and I just never knew what they all meant!

Thank you very much!!!
