Steep driveway -- solutions?

While I'm waiting on my Mini, I'm doing a lot of thinking.

We have a steep driveway that results in my wife's van bottoming out a lot when she turns onto it. If her van will do this, I know my mini will. Minivans are low to the ground but higher than minis.

Are there any solutions out there for people that have these type situations? Is there some sort of product to assist you in turning onto a steep driveway? Like a ramp or something?

the MINI has short overhangs. you'll probably be ok. I have the same issues but the MINI clears just fine

I have a steep street and have the same problem. If I take it one wheel at a time (literally), it's not a problem. I slow down (which is saying a lot for ME), and angle the car out onto the street one wheel at a time. It doesn't bottom out that way.

I have to take the boyfriend's driveway at an angle or I'll scrape. Whoever cheaped out on proper driveways here (curbs! really?!) should be shot. Where I come from (not that far from here) we have nice gentle slopes at the bottom of our driveways, none of this same curbing as the rest of the street garbage.
Anyway, yeah, just take it at an angle and you should be alright.

msduncan - that solution doesn't look bad, and is fairly inexpensive, too. Nice pic of the MG for advertisement, too, although I believe the MGs are higher up off the ground. Anyway...I guess you'll just have to "test drive" a MINI to make sure it could make it up your driveway...and, of course, to see how it will look in your driveway.

this is a great solution. I wished I would have seen that a couple of years back. Here was my Subaru trying to clear my driveway even before I lowered it:

You can buy those....Or, MSDUNCAN, you'll just have to move.

I am with the angling in to the driveway crowd. I have to hit it one wheel at a time. Also, I notice it a lot less if I back into the driveway rather than head on. Makes for a quick getaway too as long as you remember to angle on the way out!

Wow! that is genius.

I agree with misslindsey, cheaping out on driveway entrances FTL.

Hmm... how wide is a MINI? You'd have to have really good aim to hit a 4ft ramp at the end of a driveway. Also... safe for street sweepers, but I'm sure the plow would love to tear it up at the first snowfall. Not to mention the kids who love to egg anything I leave parked in the street would surely steal anything I leave there, attached or not.
But it is a cool idea.
