A look at what color means
Saw this on the 1addict forum, thought it was pretty interesting.

I'm happy with my Laser blue, not so common like white and still stands out =)
Added a few summary points:
Pink is the safest color choice =)
White is the easiest to see, but also one that is chosen for fleet cars.
Black is 5x more likely to get in an accident.
Red is the most likely to be caught speeding.

Or is that 70% more conspicuous?
That table of percentages is pretty vague.
"According to Daimler Benz, the ratings for
colour ranges from white - at 86% percent -
down to black, dark red and dark blue at 4%."
What (exactly) are they rating? More conspicuous or less conspicuous?
And where is orange?

Color and Personality
In Great Britain there was actually some research done that suggested the color of your car says something about your personality type. And accordingly, based on your personality type, your likeliness to be involved in an accident (in the U.K. at least). The research shows that black cars are twice as likely to be involved in crashes as cream-colored cars. Whether this is true in the United States is unclear.
Just for fun, here is what the research implied about certain car colors (listed in order of most dangerous to least)1

Black cars denote an aggressive personality or someone who's an outsider or rebel.
Silver cars indicate someone who's cool, calm and slightly aloof.
Green cars can often be chosen by people with hysterical tendencies.
Yellow cars signify someone who is idealistic and novelty loving.
Blue cars are chosen by the more introspective, reflective and cautious driver.
Gray cars represent those who are calm, sober and dedicated to their work.
Red cars denote those who are full of zest, energy and drive, who think, move and talk quickly.
Pink cars are chosen by gentle, loving and affectionate drivers.
White cars represent status-seeking extrovert drivers.
Cream cars are the least likely to be involved in accidents and denote self-contained and controlled owners.

The New Zealand page didn't really cover metalic colors very well. Another source claims that a New Zealand study ranked silver as the safest color.

IIRC, a 21st Century Insurance brochure claimed that silver was the most visible color and least likely to be in an accident.
Then there is an Australian study that claims silver is one of the least visible/safe colors.

That seems to sort of fit the Black MINIs on NAM, or at least they are people who like the image of the outsider/rebel. There does seem to be a lot of peer acceptance of the black with blackout look.

I've never talked quickly.
I ordered Molly OB/W so I wouldn't have to pay the $500 for Metalic Paint. I want to put the extras into options.
