So why all the MINI hate?
Is it just me, or are MINI owners shunned by the outside world? The other day, I had a random instant message pop up on my screen saying "I never thought of the Mini as terribly manly." to which I replied "wtf? ok."
I've also been called "stupid" and "girly" for ordering my MCS. Seriously, what's with all the hate towards what is a genuinely nice car? I've also gotten a slew of "you should have gotten this car, or that car, or that car (ad nauseum)." It hasn't discouraged me any from my decision to order, but it definitely makes me question others' taste. In the end, I'm getting a car I want, built the way I want it.
It just sucks that the value of a car is apparantly determined by its horsepower number and the time it takes to go through a quarter of a mile... no, MINIs don't have LS1s, nor are they made in Japan, so they must be crap, eh?
Anyone else who has ordered one been hung by their fingernails for liking/wanting/buying a MINI?

My point exactly. It's not like MINI is something you need to "get" to understand what it's all about... it's a freaking car.

I live in the same town as you but must run into different people. I had no idea when I got my MINI how many people had a secret lust for one. Nearly a 100% of the reaction I got was drooling and positive. Maybe I'm just real good at shutting out the negative, but if I got any of that, sure don't remember it.

Your new to this huh?
Do a search and you will find a hundred threads on clown, chick, gay cars. This subject is really old. You will live.
What do you care what "they" think. Your car, your money, your fun. But if it really bothers you, then your going to have a miserable ownership experience.
Just consider them uninformed.

Nope, never had any comments that strong.
I did have one of those "clown car" comments but given from whom it came, I didn't take it seriously. I also had a co-worker say she didn't like them, she thinks they're dangerous to drive because they're so small (I told her to check out the crash test results).
But for each of those two negative comments, I've gotten about 30 positive comments. So... that's a pretty good ratio.

The ratio is still 30:1, or 60:2, or 15:.5, or 7.5:.25, or 120:4, or....
See how that works ?!

I only have one co-worker that thinks they are a chick car, everyone else at work is jealous. I haev a buddy at work who is a huge Acura fan, and I give him crap about driving a Honda all the time. I took him for a ride and he was blown away by how much better the handling is over his car. If those guys are your friends take them for a ride, they will change their tune in an instant, expecially in an MCS.

In the 16 years I've been driving my beloved Miata, and being a life-long auto enthusiast, I think I've heard it all. Lately, more people have possitive comments about my car, but ten years ago, there was alot of "Buy American!" sentiment out there. Most people were surprised at how good it was when I let them ride in or drive it, but there were those who didn't need to drive it - they just knew it had to be a bad car since it was small and Japanese! About five years ago, many did not like it because it was "not a truck."
I test drove a couple of R56's the other day, and after I (hopefully!) get one, I can't wait to see the look on peoples faces when they get a ride in this big, solid, European sports-sedan!
