So why all the MINI hate?
I haven't noticed it, but then again when people make obviously misinformed stupid remarks, I usually ignore them. I do know that women feel more at ease introducing themselves to someone with a MINI than to someone who appears to be overcompensating with a tricked out Escalade (much to the dismay of my wife).
The car is just too quick, and too fun to drive for you to worry about how you look in it. I really think that folks making negative comments about someone else owning a MINI are threatened by the fact that someone can be self-confident enough not to need to impress others with phallic styling or huge size.

I've never recieved any hate from anyone. I get the occasional joke from friends but thats in good nature and usually followed by "You know I'm kidding. Your car is really sweet. I kinda wish I'd bought one if it was available."
. I especially love racing trucks, with their high center of gravity, I love it when they try to take sharp curves.
I've had a few people make similar comments about Gromit, but they were meant in fun so I don't worry about it. These same people never pass up an opportunity to ride in our MINI.
My cousin's mother-in-law calls our MINI a "clown car" every time she talks about it, but is the first to tell everyone she meets how great a car it is. For her, the term clown car is meant 100% as a compliment. She loved this.
I had one person who made a few comments that were pushing the envelope and I just let them go for a while, then when I had enough I asked how long the repairs took at his last visit to the dealer for recall work. Got real quiet--real fast. Our MINIs may not be perfect, but nothing else on the market is either.

I work as an EMT, and most of the reactions I got from my coworkers (who almost all drive pickups and SUVs) were negative. Until they actually checked it out. It was actually kinda funny... I'd catch people trying to discreetly check it out. I'd sneek up, unlock the door and invite them to sit in it, and then the compliments came rolling in! Once they've sat in one, their entire perspective changes. Now I'm known for having a sweet car that everyone loves!
The way I see it, I drive a huge truck all day long. I don't need to take one home!

in love with a hottie!
I was expecting the hate. People just don't understand. I had myelement and I kinda got the same reaction when i first got with her. But when people got to know her they started to see her for everything she was and everything she did for me...she was beautiful in her own way.
Yeah, people hate me now that i dumped her for mymini. Don't get me wrong...i appreciate everything about myelement and the times we spent...I'll miss her. I think the spark just wasn't there at the end. Everyone is going to blame mymini for breaking us up but it wasn't her fault...i take all the blame but myelement and I were over before i met mymini. I was looking for something else. Sure everyone just sees mymini as this hot little girl, a fling, and say "you can't be serious about her!".....but there is more to her and as people get to meet her and see us together i think they'll get to see that we were meant for each other....and there are those that will never understand.

not sure if this was MINI hate or Rainbow hate....

Having gotten rid of a Lincoln Navigator in favor of a Mini, I am now on the other end of the spectrum when it comes to size on the road. I am noticing big SUVs riding right up on my bumper all the time, as if to intimidate me somehow. I never used to "bully" people on the street when I had my Nav, but it has happened to me more than a few times in the couple of weeks that I have had my new MCS. Tonight, my wife and I were heading out to dinner and a movie, and a big Escalade rolled up on me. At the stoplight, I could see the occupants pointing and laughing at my car!
I just smiled. As we merged onto the toll way, I knew he was going to change lanes and try to pass me. I switched lanes to get out from behind a slower moving vehicle, and waited for the Cadillac to make his move. As soon as he changed lanes, I let him get even with my rear bumper and told my wife to hold on. I then let him have it. I left him in my wake and just before I took my exit I slowed down and let him catch up. You should have seen the looks on their faces! Gone were the smirks and grins, replaced by looks of shock and awe. It was GREAT!

He was driving in the right hand lane of a 4-lane (2 in each direction) road and a full size dodge pickup pulls out from a cross street on the left side straight into his lane cutting him off. he swings into the left lane to avoid him and as soon as he gets to the point where his front bumper is even w/ the dodge's (banged up) rear bumper the jerk swerves into the left lane!!! my co-worker layed on the brakes to back off and then the dodge casually rolls back into the right lane and floors it.
gjhsu,
Take heart, though you may have to interact with these poor simpletons at work, rest assured, they will eventually tire of MINI bashing and move on to some other type of hazing as is typical of the mentally myopic.
In the end, do you really care what they think as long as YOU are happy with what you drive? Think about it, then continue to Motor On!
(They only had power windows on the front, but manuals in the back)
Had a Neon SRT4 for breakfast the other day. This punk (and his 2 boyfriends) pulled up right next to me at a light on my way to work, revving his engine. Didn't really race him -- until the next light (a twisty trap). Anyway, he never saw my Mini's handsome front. Poor guy hit some potholes too to make matters worse.
On a friendlier note, I saw this speeding STI from my rear view. He slowed down when he got along side; and gave me the thumbs up. We followed each other until I had to exit.

Is it just me, or are MINI owners shunned by the outside world? The other day, I had a random instant message pop up on my screen saying "I never thought of the Mini as terribly manly." to which I replied "wtf? ok."
I've also been called "stupid" and "girly" for ordering my MCS. Seriously, what's with all the hate towards what is a genuinely nice car? I've also gotten a slew of "you should have gotten this car, or that car, or that car (ad nauseum)." It hasn't discouraged me any from my decision to order, but it definitely makes me question others' taste. In the end, I'm getting a car I want, built the way I want it.
It just sucks that the value of a car is apparantly determined by its horsepower number and the time it takes to go through a quarter of a mile... no, MINIs don't have LS1s, nor are they made in Japan, so they must be crap, eh?
Anyone else who has ordered one been hung by their fingernails for liking/wanting/buying a MINI?

One guy upon seeing the car for the first time even asked me when I was getting the other one for the other foot.
But my all time favorite from 2 gold chained pimp wannabees in a 740IL:
"Oh look, he got a "my first BMW"!
I work with a bunch of Harley/Ford F150 guys and the minute they heard I had ordered a MINI the "clown car" jokes started. So I had this made up:
