I've also gotten a slew of "you should have gotten this car, or that car, or that car (ad nauseum)." It hasn't discouraged me any from my decision to order, but it definitely makes me question others' taste. In the end, I'm getting a car I want, built the way I want it.

It just sucks that the value of a car is apparantly determined by its horsepower number and the time it takes to go through a quarter of a mile... no, MINIs don't have LS1s, nor are they made in Japan, so they must be crap, eh?

Anyone else who has ordered one been hung by their fingernails for liking/wanting/buying a MINI?
when they bother you, remind them that Mark Whalberg and Jason Stathan drove mini coopers in The Italian Job..
I'm a girl so I don't really get comments like this but my boyfriend is always more than happy to drive my car and doesn't feel one bit awkward about it..even though he's the "i'm a man" kind of guy..
minis are way more agressive than your typical girlie car..just cause it has somewhere around 180 hp doesn't mean that it's a weak car in any way..it's way more than most people need for good driving in the city or freeway..
don't let them bring you down..just tell them that we all can agree to disagree about your car and that they don't need to give their opinions on everything..

I've heard people say they're gotten various disparaging remarks made about the choice of a Mini but I say, who cares? People like that are small. And insignificant. I don't drive what I drive because of popular opinion. I drive what I drive because I like it.
A truly exoctic car in Orange County would be a Buick. There are none, nada, not a single one on the road. The everyday common Ferrari is much more the unbiqutous site.

Same thing happened when my husband and I left the dealership after we ordered my Chili Red Mini Cooper S. We called some friends in excitement and thought "we could do better" by buying a Subaru. WTF, I want a MINI! Not a Subie. But whatever, my husband and I both love to drive the S so oh well, when they see how badass we make it out to be they'll be jealous at least some of our friends share our excitement!

I think I heard it here, but I will repeat it anyway.

My mini is only cute on the outside. If you sit in the passanger seat, it can be scary.

No one has ever been in my mini an not thought they were a great car. Period.

I really think if any mini haters take a ride in one, they will change their mind.

For years my parents called mini's "Sardine cans" and talked about how unsafe they are if you get into an accident.

Well I bought one last week and they think it's the cutest thing ever now! And LOVED driving it!

I think there is a fair amount of kool-aid being consumed in MINI circles and so there may be a polarizing effect that is offputting to people who do not get MINIs at all. I still run into Mini owners who refuse to acknowledge the MINI as a real Mini at all. On some level they are right, in spite of BMW's claims. In some ways, MINI has all but forgotten many of the things that made Minis great (many MINI owners have likewise forgotten), but they undoubtably have done so in favor of sustainable sales so I guess I cannot blame them.

Stupid

The idea that gay guys only drive small cars or are all somehow feminine is incredibly stupid. I have gay friends who could kick my *** and I'm a big guy. The more I learn about people, the more disappointed I get.

Amen brother. I haven't really gotten much of the "gay" comments. I also have a couple of gay friends, and one of them told me "I wouldn't be caught dead in a tiny car!" LOL. He was obviously kidding, but his point was that he wasn't a fan of the "gay" cars out there.

I think all of the negativity is a combination of ignorance and jealousy. People don't realize that small cars can be very safe , and they are just jealous that they don't have one of the coolest cars on the planet lol .

I do get a lot of requests to go for a spin in it tho, most of my co-workers actually like Das Stinktier. Heck, one of my co-workers is a German citizen, he helped me name it!

The only people who might have a legit reason to dislike MINIs might be us former owners.....and yet even we don't!!! MINIs are amazing!!!!

Well, my 16 year old son was sorta pissed at me when after a year of car shopping I bought a 2011 MCS instead of a Mustang, Camaro or Jeep, at least he was pissed until he went for his first ride in it. That turned him around,,,,, that made a BELIEVER out of him.

Yep.

I've never had any negative comments sent my way and wouldn't care if they were. People just have preconceived notions about things. And a ride in one will certainly change most people's mind. I remember something someone told me once. This guy is a motorcycle nut. He races. And he also races motorcycle side cars. So, he's no newbie to going fast. Anyway, a friend of his bought a Mini, a JCW I believe, and took him for a ride up in the mountains around here. The racer said is was the most terrifying ride he'd ever been on and that he thought he was "going to p!$$ blood". That racer now has plenty of repect for all Minis.

We have had my wife's '11 MCS for about two weeks. We carpool and she picks me up at my work at 5:00 p.m. when my coworkers are also leaving. Now that just about all my coworkers have seen me (6'2, 235lbs) get into the MINI and then speed off, I have received just about 90% positive comments about the looks, size, etc. But, it seems some folks have a strong opinion about other people's possessions and can't help but express their negative feelings. To them I politely say, "what gave you the idea I had any interest in your opinion concerning my car?" Works like a charm every time. I haven't gotten a single come-back yet that made any sense.

the best is when you take someone off the line.

so kid pulled up next to me at a light in his mustang the other day and yelled "nice toy, where do you put the batteries?" i took a look at him reved my engine, saw him laugh he reved his the light turned green and bam he popped his clutch and stalled out so hard! needless to say he rolled up to the next light redfaced and speechless.

ive gotten the girly car comment before. i always offer those people a ride.

what makes a car a girly car?? the looks? the only things i see woman driving around here are huge gashole SUVs and there soccermom minivans.
i hardly ever see a woman in a mini around here

the story with the mustang is priceless!

I still have my Mustang and never have I wanted to race anyone on the street. It's always the young kids wanting to prove something.

I wanted a MINI because it was different, cool, retro, high-tech, jazzy, eco-fun, quick, compact, and I could make it into anything I wanted it to be. Most of my friends scratched their heads when they first saw mine, knowing the kind of cars and trucks I've owned in the past. Yep, their first reaction was shock. Afterward they all did the same thing, grabbed the key, jumped in to take it for a spin, "to find out what is it about this car that made him get one??!!!!"

They call it a girly car, because their girls wanted to get in it and ride with ME.

Most of the reason they don't have a MINI is they haven't taken a test drive. That was my mistake back in 05. Now on my third and best with the CM All4.

Where is it that girls don't drive MINI's. Please fix your profile and add your location. Doesn't have to be real specific.
