So why all the MINI hate?
I do not get any comments of the sort, I think it is mostly with the crowd you run wit, prolly drag strippers, staight line horsepower freaks, too much NOS fumes, you know the type. Even alot of the the Honda JDM type kids in my area are getting into auto-x, track days and time attacks stuff and getting away from the drag stripping and street racing junk. Pretty much all them love the MINI, as well as the local Sube kids. Try getting a few of them into autocross, not to change their mind about the MINI but to have someone to hang with at those events.
I can't believe all the people that worry about stuff like this or even allow themselves to get irked by it. I am gay and I only get comments like, "awesome whip" or "sweet ride". You would think if people thought the MINI was such a "gay" car, they would say, "oh, wow, that is the most perfect car for you".
Depends what part of the country I am in, here in KC it isnt too bad, most drivers are pretty cool about it.
everybody loves mine, some school mates say its a "gay car" or a girly car or w/e its my car i payed for it, and im proud of that. they drive dads fancy bmw blah blah blah.....
idc what they say, "wanna race through some twisties.... i dare you" onc ei say they they usually shut up. ive got a twisty sleeper

"Look at that gay little car"
Those were my words when I pulled up to the dealership looking for a 4cyl Toyota Tacoma for a commuter car.
Then I drove the 'gay little car' (an 06 MCS convertible) and thought 'OHMYGAWDTHISCARISAWESOME!'
...and later that day I ended up with my 05 MCS 6 speed.
Everyone at work makes fun of me because my other car is a Z71 Tahoe (14mpg on a good day) but my response is simple:
I get 30mpg and I'm supercharged. There's usually silence after that part.
My mom calls it a clown car, and the names I get at work are only appropriate for porno and the lockerroom. I hear a lot of 'my wife wants me to buy one of these for her', but I love this little car and I'm SOOOOO glad I didn't buy a Tacoma or a used CRX.
To everyone with this problem, give the haters a ride and see if they don't come to work with one.

'Never had anyone express an opinion like that to me. Similar to a previous post, perhaps it's because I'm 6'1" and 265 lbs. Or maybe because my Mini is a somewhat customized JCW. Or maybe out her in California, people are more accepting and savy about cars. Who knows? I've heard people say they're gotten various disparaging remarks made about the choice of a Mini but I say, who cares? People like that are small. And insignificant. I don't drive what I drive because of popular opinion. I drive what I drive because I like it.
Rallycrossing a girliecar

I took my old MINI to the RallyCross event this past weekend and finished first in modified Front wheel drive class and 3rd fastest composite score after 5 runs out of 30 drivers including quite a few Subaru All wheel drive WRX and imprezzas and a couple of trucks.
Funny how that day none of the competitors thought of the MINI as a girlie or gay car (especially from a trailing position).
I live in a small town in the mid-west where everyone drives four wheel drive trucks and suv's. I absolutely buck the macho system with my MCS. I take enormous pride in the fact that I do not conform to this BS image. One of my old high school friends was getting his Four wheel drive truck, that looked like it took a step ladder to get into, worked on when I was also at the station with my Mini. I was almost embarrassed for him for needing to get the biggest truck he could buy to make him feel like a man. How sad and fragile the human psyche can be!!!
This thread is so fun to read! My wife and I got our first MINI (& first convertible) several months ago - '10 Child Red MCS convertible, factory aero kit, black bonnet stripes, and checkered mirror caps (which she picked out). Although I had always thought it looked awesome, I still had some reservations about driving it initially. Now, it has completely grown on me, it's now my daily driver, and I love driving top down!!! Also, love the fact that I can park almost anywhere!
Haven't publicly heard a derogatory comment yet. Haha When we first got it, I asked friends/family what they thought. Almost all said it was really cool, one said it looked kinda like a girl's car, and one said it made me metrosexual. LOL Not too bad, but I think people here in the SF bay area tend to be more open-minded.
The few mods that I've done so far - including JCW intake, JCW exhaust, Bilstein HD shocks, and Eibach RSB - has made me love driving the MINI even more!
What really sealed the deal, however, for my newfound love for MINIs was my recent vacation in Europe. Went to the nicest places and among all the Ferraris, Lambos, Bentleys, and Mercedes, there were always a handful of MINIs. GOTTA LOVE IT.
Returned to the States and seeing all the behemoth SUVs with solo drivers made me sick to the stomach. LOL

Went to Men's Bible Study in the MINI for the first time, today. Someone asked "who's Cooper 'Camino out there?" I said it was mine. The only coment I got was "Gee, he drives all the fun cars" referring to the Mini and my '73 Dodge Dart Sport with a 512 big block.
Those rainbow license plates surely don't help the cause!
Sorry, I had to say something.
My friend made a quip the other day that questioned my manliness. I just told him I have a huge *&%# and did not have to worry about it as I glanced at his cowboy cadillac and cleared my throat.
But seriously, I took him for his first ride in a Mini later that day and before I could top out second gear he was crapping his pants.

why own anything else thats the question????
hi my name is harry and i bought my FIRST MINI 4months ago i just wished i knew years back how much fun they were then i probably would have a few more in the barn MINIINHD
I suppose Mini has a "cute" factor going on, that's life. On the other hand, I consider myself a car nut and in 35 years of driving, I've owned everything from a 69 Roadrunner, a 68 GTO, a 74 Vette, etc. All great cars and the Mini fits into the "great car" category also. This time around, when we were looking for something "cool, fun and different" we looked at Z4's, Audi TT's, S2000's, etc.......then were drove the Mini, none of the others came close in handling or the "fun factor", that was it, we were sold.
