I want to congratulate "James Hunt" for an excellent win!
Who says Kimi isn't funny. I am sure he just finished watching Mission Impossible and said to himself, hmmm...Ethan Hunt...ok...James Bond...I'll just combine the two...."James Hunt" it is... and off to the snowmobile races I go!!!!!

Just looked at speedtv.com's F1 message board for the first time. Didn't spend much time there, but I found out that the Red Bulletin is now available online.
This is the magazine that Red Bull puts out each day during an F1 weekend. You've probably heard it mentioned a few times during the broadcasts, and now you can download it as a PDF from www.redbulletin.com.

James Simon Wallis Hunt (29 August 1947 – 15 June 1993) was an English racing driver and Formula 1 world champion and subsequently a commentator and businessman. Never one to take himself too seriously, Hunt endeared himself to the British public with his charisma and charm and brought a whole new audience to Formula One in the mid 1970's.
The son of a successful stockbroker, James Hunt was born in Belmont and educated firstly at Westerleigh School in Hastings and later Wellington College in Berkshire, and originally studied to be a doctor. But just before his 18th birthday, he was taken by a friend to see a motor race, and Hunt was instantly hooked.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Hunt for the rest of the story on this facinating driver that started his racing carrer in a Mini.
Going to be a very interesting season. The once very fragile McLarens took two of the podium positions. Kimi did well. Massa might have been in there if he'd started higher on the grid. You can bet development at McLaren isn't standing still.
I guess it looks as though some of the slower teams from last year may or may not have made great strides . . . but it's really hard to tell from only one GP . . .
I'm hoping Massa's disfortune was a one-off, but I'd say Ferrari look fairly tough to beat at the moment.

Wassup Peeps, no praise for BMW? Are we in denial of our MINI heritage? The BMW-Sauber team was right up there with the big dawgs of Ferrari and McLaren-Mercedes, need one say more? Hiedfeld drove a superb race to finish fourth, and Kubica was also strongly in the points when his vehicle let him down. Renault and BMW have the potential to win this year, and probably will.
So the HONDA .... "save the world ... save fuel... green(ish) blue(ish)" thing really does work !
No driving in Q2 or 3 and dont push that thingy that makes the gas go away.
I am interested to see the debate about the "clones"

I thought Varsha's comments during the race were completely unnecessary. There are so many nationalities involved in F1 that color makes absolutely no difference...it's not even something I would think about. "Maybe he'll do for F1 what Tiger Woods did for golf" he said. What's that; horribly commercialize it? Already done.
Hobbs said it was the first time that a face that dark had appeared on an F1 podium (or words to that effect). It looks like a terrible thing to say when you see it in print, but over the air it came across as good-natured. I didn't have a negative reaction to it at all. Hopefully now that Hamilton has had some success we can drop the discussion of what he looks like or how articulate he is, etc. Let's move on.
Oh, and congratulations to BMW on a strong start. One mustn't get too attached to a 2nd-tier team based on one race's results, though. It is very nice to see so many teams competing for points so far.

I don't think he 'ment' anything other than what he said but for us perhapa a bad wording.
My beef would be that not evert good / great action of any driver on the grid now needs to be refered to as SHUMACHERLIKE
Agreed, on both points!
See you in Vegas!
Jim
I would be much more comfortable if no reference were made to race or religon. Talent have a way of transcending all these and perhaps that is where the focus should be.
Hamilton will be a standout due to his talent...hopefully not his color.
I taped the race and it ran out as Kimi climbed to the podium

in a related story, but an obvious rant...the Offical F1 site state F1 driver's heart to be 50 or below while at rest - no problem. But whilst sitting in the grid preparing for the start, some heart rates go far beyond 200bpm. Lance Armstrong's Max HR is 203bpm, a physiological limiter. My max heart rate is 198 - determinhed by a brutal - near throw up level event - test given twice a year by the cycling team I belong to. That zone is purely anerobic! I find it a rather long stretch, the possibility that the entire field is anerobic before the start of a race
If worry, fear, anxiety caused our heart rate to soar to 200 and above, we wouldn't be worried about over-population. It takes an incredible amount of physical exersion to reach 200bpm, more so if one is in shape.
Anyone else find this stat amusing?

There is an interesting comparison in Dr. Sid Watkin's book . . . I think it is titled "Life at the Limit" between the heart rates of Ferrari drivers Gilles Villeneuve and Didier Pironi. Very interesting difference.
I know there can be huge difference between individuals; my coach's max HR is 185, basically my HR lactic acid threshold - race pace. I have a bigger motor, but he's in better shape
It's the anerobic thing I don't quite trust
On the other hand, flight or fight mechanisms have been known to kill folks and despite my experience with my own training, muscle exersion and HR are not necessarily tethered. I might bring my HR monitor to my next track event for goofs and giggles.

Looks like I'm going to go to the USGP. I'll go on Thursday for the the pit walk, and Sunday for the race.
I wanted to get people's opinions on the best place to sit for the race. It looks like Stands H and J are the best (end of the front straight into Turn 1), but I'm wondering about G Stand (overlooking the end of the infield into the turn onto the main straight).
Highest seats available in J Stand are row K (is row A at the top or the bottom?).
Highest seats in H Stand are row D.
Highest seats in G Stand are row are row T.
Then there is the Southwest Vista Deck which looks to be the top of the stand next to G. Row A is available there.

The stands at the very end of the front straight into turn 1 are by far the best. You can see basically all the way down the front straight, the whole first in field section and part of the second long straight.
I like the infield . . . Corner 6 terrace . . . but that's just me. Most of my friends prefer H & J
I'm really working the camera so I like the proximity for long lens work and the fact that I can roam around, too. If you sit high enough at Corner 6 you can see the cars appear at Turn One
Either way . . . I can not wait!
