2007 Formula 1 Discussion Thread
They should give up trying to make them slower and let them use turbo's.
The rules also don't allow oval pistons or 2-stroke engines. Makes you wonder what would be under your car's hood if F1 manufacturers had been able to work with these relatively efficient technologies.
2.2-Liter Turbo Diesels in F1?
Funny that we (well, I) should be talking about alternate F1 engine possibilities, and then this comes along today.
"Radical" proposed engine regs for 2011 specify:
2.2-Liter V-6 engines
Turbocharged
Limited to 10,000 rpm
Running on biofuel
Producing 770hp
Lasting 5 race weekends

I had a feeling about Massa this year and he is doing very well overall disregarding Malaysia.
If it weren't for a problem in Australia, he would be fast in every race this season so far.
Lewis Hamilton is phenominal!!!
A night race would be very interesting from a fan perspective. The sparks and glowing brakes alone would be worth it.

Well I think I'll go ahead and go to Indy this year after all......They have a nice three day GA ticket available for only $60! Race day you can actually sit in the Tower Terrace between sections 39-77. These are not bad seats as I sat there the first two years of this race so you get a view down pit road , pit out, most of the front straight, and maybe some of the entry to the 1st turn. Anybody doing the pit walk?? Plus I'll check the SpeedTV F1 guy's doing their show............
MINICCI has some events going on for the F1 weekend. If you plan on heading to Indy, feel free to drop by. The speedway is also doing the car corral again this year, so we will be parking on the back stretch.

I think racing esp Formula One should consider more environmentally friendly alternatives either fuel cell, electric, or whatever technology is on the horizon.
What we have now is technology that nobody will ever use other than in F1.
They already spend a ton of money. Why not apply that engineering to technology we all can use. Give them some government and corporate money as well as advertising revenue.
What's the name of that all electric sportscar for $100,000? That would be an example of something exciting that I am sure F1 people could make even more radically quick and efficient.

Your face can appear on Red Bull's cars at the British GP for the low price of just 10 pounds!
To raise money for charity, Red Bull is asking fans to upload photos of themselves to be included in a special livery at the British GP.

Senna V Schumacher
Older car technology, and having to reach down and actually shift the gears, Senna is right there with Schumacher at Suzuka.

Yeah, I was there also.............quite disappointing but at least we got our ticket money back.
The season's a long way from finished but I'm curious if any Kimi supporters/detractors want to weigh in on his start at Ferrari?
I certainly anticipated and hoped for more results such as Melbourne. Spain was tough. Qualifying today for Monaco was worse.
Interesting to note that several former Michelin runners have had difficulty adjusting to the Bridgestone tires, but I'm not certain Kimi's struggle lies solely in the rubber.

Remember the old Monty Python skit, where they guy in a movie theater is going around yelling "Albatross, get your albatross here!" Of course it's hanging around his neck. There's Kimi.
Yeah, we sure got teased big time by Kimi in Melburne...........I want to retract my prediction of him winning the WDC but it's still early and he's not far behind. Let's see if he can do a MS drive from the (near) back Sunday..
I watched it. It was boring. The only interest generated was the result of teams being on different pit-stop strategies; it was difficult to tell where drivers were going to finish until the last stops were made. Being Monaco, you knew no one would make a pass on the track.
I thought the race would start with Alonso leading and Hamilton holding back Massa. That part came true, but I expected Massa to stay out long enough to pass Hamilton in the pits. That didn't happen since the McLaren's weren't nearly as light at the start as people predicted. It was nice to see Ferrari try putting Massa on soft tires at the second stop, just to see if he could make any headway. He couldn't, of course, but you knew he wouldn't do worse than third regardless.
As awesome as it is to watch the cars thread their ways through those narrow streets - especially when seen from the nose cams - Monaco is a ridiculous race course. Let's hope the new street circuits in Valencia and Singapore offer some passing opportunities.

Man o man..........what a butt whipping by McLaren. The boys back in Marinello are surely scratching their heads going "WTF" right about now. A nice result by Speed even though he just missed out on points....
I still think Massa is the better fit for Ferrari. I like Kimi but I don't think he puts in the input Ferrari needs to make the car work. He always seems to be waiting for some one else to fix it.
Interesting race.....I continue to love Peter Windsor's pre-race show, only because he has the cred to walk up to anybody and actually ask intelligent and relevant questions.
McLaren...great job. Who knows what Ferrari is thinking (and who knows what MS is thinking?) Hamilton clearly has what it takes for F1...he made a great pass on somebody (can't remember who)...great job for his first time in Monaco. Alonso was just plain quick...ya have to hand him that. Seems the story in Monaco is one of dealing w/ traffic and on those narrow streets things can go wrong fast. Apparently the weather could have made things get really weird, but in the end it wasn't a factor. Hamilton admitted to bumping into "things" often...good thing those McLarens can take it...a lesser car would have made things weird, too!!
