F-1 Discussion Thread - 2005 Season
Would someone mind pasting some results, whether it be practice or qualifying for me? My work seems intent on blocking any site related to F1. However, I can still make my picks.
If one kind soul would throw up some results for me to at least see who's doing what, I'll have a little better clue as to what to pick. Thanks!

Any thoughts on this....
Saunders gears up for $1.5bn Formula 1 bid.
I've only been watching F1 for a short time, so I don't know what this could potentially mean, good or bad. Maybe this would entice the other teams to recondsider the concourse agreement, since it sounds like it would be rewritten completely if this were to go through. Or do you think the other teams will continue with their quest of their own series?

Saunders, through her private equity firm Clearbrook Capital Partners, has held extensive negotiations with Bernie Ecclestone, the tycoon who has controlled F1 for more than two decades. Saunders aims to pull off a leveraged buyout of the sport, in a scheme that would see the sport's teams eventually owning the franchise."
It goes on from there, but the gist is Saunders (I've never heard of her) wants to be the 75% of F1 that Bernie doesn't own, with a plan that would result in the teams owning F1.
Considering what happened to CART here in the States, I don't know why anyone ever would suggest a racing series be owned by its teams! If you look at successful sports in the US (NASCAR, the NFL, the NBA), they all have a single, powerful league office that controls things. Look at Major League Baseball and IRL/CART to see what happens when you don't have that kind of leadership.
Whether or not F1 with Bernie and Max leading it is equivalent to a NASCAR-level success is debatable, but I don't think a team-owned F1 would work out very well.
So if the teams had ownership, what would happen if a new team wanted in? Would everyones share in the ownership then diminish by a percentage? Or would the existing teams vote to include the new team?

I found most interesting Bernie's rejection last month of the Hutchinson Whampoa offer. This is the Hong Kong (read RED Chinese) company that currently controls both Pacific and Caribbean port facilities of the Panama Canal. They have been linked to corporate espionage of just about anything. Maybe F1 technology is of particular interest to them now.
Do you expect me to talk?
No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!

is it just me? or...
is it just me? or wouldn't mclaren be in a better position if they would have worked on reliability of their engines instead of using kimi as a guinea pig? i' mean, the guy has consistantly been the fastest on the track and they go and put in a new generation engine instead of sticking with what's winning races and making it reliable? i don't get it. someone who know's what they are talking about... PLEASE explain.
regardless it's gonna be a heck of a race tomorrow (uh, today).

Montoya holds on with Alonso closing fast but not fast enough. Kimi is the most amazing story starting in 11th, having to make an extra stop b/c of the tire and still comes in 4th! Give him one more lap and he would've been 3rd. Good fun!
Another stellar job by Montoya to pip Raikkonen for pole in Belgium...looked for a while like the rain might dash the hopes of the front runners and leave M. Schumacher on pole...but the rain held off.
I love Spa-Francorchamps!
