DSC on or off in the race?

I had it on and I did not spin the wheels that much, but when I have it off I spin the wheels like crazy. Some how I manage to reduce my time for 2 seconds with DSC off and drifting all over.

DSC is too much of a baby-sitter and applies too much brake to help in performance driving. DSC wasn't designed for performance driving anyway - it was designed for maximum "confidence" in snowy conditions

How soon we forget. Score: Mr.Motor = 1, Ryan = 0

DSC should definaly be turned of when doing autocross or track events. Just remember to drive within your limits and not like a dumba$$. You can avoid wheelspin if you modulate the throttle. Having said this, keep it safe and off the highway.

Most of the cars in John Cooper Challenge races have DSC on!..Why? Was the DSC suppose to help with traction?

MyPocketRocket,

What tires and in what size do you have on your MINI (MSC?)?
With DSC on, before you loose traction brakes are applied hence little to no wheel spin. With DSC off it is up to you to modulate the throttle to control loss of traction and wheel spin. If you ease onto the throttle and balance the weight of your MINI on all four tires as your steer you will maintain traction and eliminate most of the wheel spin with DSC off.

For all performance driving (autocross, track or driving events) DSC should be off. I suppose if the road/track conditions were wet or miserable then it might be possible to try DSC on.

Some of your wheel spin might be from loss of traction due to your tires. If you have essentially street tires (not so performance oriented), then you have to back off even more on the throttle to allow your tires to adhere for any given road conditions.

During that race why did they have DSC on? How do you know they did have DSC on? Maybe it was required? Was it stated as a rule- I think there were plenty of rules to follow.

MCS with stock 17" and stock Dunlop tires I think that's why I spined my wheels like a drag car all over places.

I saw that setup for John Cooper Challenge some where on the net, but it may be on one of the wet race that every one turn DSC on.

I shut mine off for DE's or autocrossing... UNLESS it is raining, and then I find it to be a significant advantage and even more so with the MTH software... Franz's modifications to the DSC behavior ROCK.

Digging this thread back up as it seems like a good place to ask this question:

I plan to TT my Mini with NASA. TT classing is by points and Traction Control is +3 unless you can prove it's disabled. I don't plan to run with DSC on so how do I prove it's off? Having a switch on the dash that can be toggled during or after a run is going to count. Can I pull a fuse? I need to be able to shut it off and not be able to turn it back on from the drivers seat.

Thanks,

Sidney

I never noticed that on the NASA classing sheet? I run TTC with my R53.

Anyway, just show them the light is on which means DSC is off. The R53 & R56 will be slower with DSC on.

Alan, did the Quaife LSD help with the added torque after your tune? I'm thinking that will be my next mod.

Yes, the Quaife was the first mod I did to the car. Spinning up the inside wheel was just frustrating the heck out of me.

Sweet! Obviously I've done a couple before. The rest were my before tune plan. I just got the tune a couple days ago and it's awesome!!! As soon as my bank account calms down a bit I'm back up to see way in ATL for the LSD.
