Just a quick question for the knowledgeable. Does anyone know what site to go to to order a helmet for my hubby? I don't want him to be too severely injured when I begin beating him around the head the first time I look over and see how fast he's really going!! (Who's bright idea was it to put that speedometer where I could see it?

You can get one by clicking here.
But buy a cheap one otherwise it won't hurt when you give him a whack.

Ok note to the public:

We have a live one here, look forward to many future silly posts.

As for the helmet, I need to know what implements you are intending to hit him with.

Here is the UBER model helm, safe for use with most rolling pins.

If he plans to do track events, make sure that the helmet has a Snell SA (special applications) rating. Most "cheap" helmets are for motorcycle riders and are only Snell M rated.

Check out http://www.racerwholesale.com for reasonably priced helmets. I'm a Simpson fan (http://www.simpsonraceproducts.com/) myself. If he wears glasses (as I do), make sure that the helmet has a reasonably-sized eye port.

I had the same thought about the speedometer and she-who-must-be-obeyed. I guess she loves the thrill of the ride, 'cause I don't hear about the speed much.

You are the best wife ever!!

Have your husband join the "Can't wait for October club" here on MCO.
He'll be in good company!

and I thought they put the speedo there so my Mom and Dad can see what I'm doing when they go places with me!

Trojan makes a good helmet. Ribbed... just in case.

On the clean(er) side, bicycle/skate style head gear will protect enough for you to get the message across.

I hope he doesn't have a sunroof, she'll be able to get a bigger whack at him.

While it might ruin the surprise, helmets are a pretty individual choice, so you might want to get him the promise of a helmet so that he can try on several different models. Nothing is more agrivating when you're trying to drive at 10/10ths than distractingly uncomfortable gear, and like shoes, helmets are going to all fit differently. The SA 2000 certification will guarantee that it's legal everywhere (fireproof as well as impact resistant), and keep weight in mind, if he's doing track days a heavy helmet will wear quickly on the neck muscles compared to a light one. Good luck!
