How does the Works kit affect classing
What class does a car equipped with the Works kit fall into?
Also, will SCCA rules allow an MCS with the pulley mod to be in the same class as the Works MCS, since the 15% reduction pulley is now offered as part of a Manufacturer-offered option?
Othewise, looks like I'll be flopping around in Street Mod. Thanks. JR

Since it's a kit, and not a from the factory option, I believe the reduction pulley alone throws you into SM.

Actually the pulley reduction is not allow in STX as it increases boost (a no-no for the class). The pulley change alone will cause the car to fall into SM (Street Mod). As for the JCW package and resulting classing in Solo 2 I believe it is still under review by the classing committee for Solo 2. My guess is that it will not be allowed to be run in a stock class since it is not a factory installed option (its installed at the dealer) and will likely be considered a dealer installed option.

According to Mike Barret at MINI-USA, 2003 MINI's with the JCW kit will be allowed to enter into stock class, as it is now a factory option. 2002 MINI's with the JCW kit will not be in stock because the kit was not offered for the model year.
Will this be an orderable option that will be installed at the factory? If so, I would suspect that a JCW-equipped equipped COOPER S will be placed in D Stock. The "base" S will remain in G Stock and the COOPER in H Stock.

That's what I thought. It would be an interesting issue if it were to be a factory-installed option. I would suspect that at some point it will be as I understand that currently the ECU must be pulled from the car and sent to MINI USA "headquarters" for a flash upgrade (dealers can't do it). Obviously this could be done at the factory as well.

MINIUSA has great intentions, but they do not speak for the SEB. As I understand the JCW (info from MINIUSA.com), it will be a dealer installed option, and until MINI makes it a factory option, the works will not be allowed to run in a stock class. There are option packages and then there are differnt cars. If the SEB rules the Works package is a different car, it will be classed on its own. It may be listed in G Stock as a JCW Cooper S, or just as Cooper S all. If it is an option package, it may be listed in a seperate class, or G stock.
The advantage will come with SP cars, since they can update and backdate i.e a 02 JCW.
The pulley reduction mod is a no-go for stock, as the works package is a different supercharger. (hmm, what are thye doing with the old superchargers)? You have to do all the modifications, and add nothing new, of an option package to remain in stock.
200 hp through one wheel, Yikes! Where is our LSD?

Yep, if it's not on the car when it comes off the truck at the dealership it's not legal for stock, even if it's a option listed in the brochure.
The Subaru WRX can be optioned with 17's and short shift kits (these are options listed in the WRX brochure) but these are illegal to run in stock because they are installed by the dealer.
So unless the JCW bits are put on at the factory... you're going to be running a Mod class.

Is this
still the case?
JCW kitted cars are a different class? Mine had the JCW kit on it from mile 1. dealer installed though. ECU Manufacturer flashed!

The JCW is on the stock exclusion list, along with the Modena, Z8, GT2. They go straight to ASP. Now that is not to say they will not be allowed into a lower SP class in the future. SP allows LSDs so until someone preps a JCW to the limit in SP they world may never where it fits. Just keep in mind that all cars can not be class killers.
