Front plate mount for 2012 JCW
Front plate mount for 2012 JCW
I have a 2012 factory JCW. It now comes with the aero kit as a standard option. I bought a license plate mount from Cravenspeed for the front. It is a great product and works on my wife's Countryman. But, it is too short for my JCW. The port is really recessed behind the bumper line on the JCW, which does not allow enough clearance for the mount and bracket without causing the plate to hit the bumper.
Does anyone have suggestions for the mounting the front license plate on a JCW with the aero kit, other than the one that the dealer would drill in.

Got this last week:

It fits my newly mounted JCW Aero front bumper on my Clubman S. it is so much better than earlier versions (with no angle design). Now, plate sits closer and in line with bumper curve. No problem mounting it over JCW bumper what so ever.

This is what I use on mine.

On my old R50, I used gominogo's tow hook mount and that a good product too.

You can do what I did, cut a piece of clearbra material about 1/8" larger than your plate and install it on your car. In a day or two when it's on there firmly, use 3M or Norton body molding tape (the good stuff from a body shop supply store, not the garbage at an auto parts store) and 3M adhesion promoter to install the plate on the clearbra. This way you'll have a very, very securely mounted plate, no screw holes in your bumper, no goofy-looking offset plate, and best of all, no damage AT ALL under the plate. It's how I do all my plates. I can get you pics if you'd like.
Ords....the Cravenspeed fit yours??? Do you have the aero kit on a factory JCW??? It was too short on mine and would rub into the bumper if I locked it down. I ordered the Alta plate holder because it had a v shaped bend to the plate to move it away from the bumper. Still waiting for it to arrive.
sorry for reviving an old thread but I just mounted my Alta plate holder on a 2012 mcs with jcw aero kit. I ended up just going to the hardware store and getting a 1 1/4" bolt instead of the supplied 3/4 bolt and getting more washers to prevent it from rubbing against my bumper. It ended up working out great and piece that holds the plate is about a cm from my bumper after playing around with the amount of washers used.
I got the Alta mount, I added all the available washers and it still marked the finish by the mounting hole. I'm thinking of adding some foam to the back of the mount to prevent that, but currently I'm running with the plate on the mount in the boot.
I ended up bending the plate holder slightly to go more evenly with the curve of the bumper. Swapped out the 3/4" length bolt to a 1 1/4" bolt and added a bit of washers(the 3 or 4 included ones didn't nearly clear enough space it seemed like). All for a few dollars at a local supply store. Here is a picture, of it how it ended up turning out(the top angle pick looks kinda weird from the angle I took the picture, but the left and right side of the license are actually about the same distance from the bumper)
