Had to sell the JCW

So with our first baby arriving soon and all the new baby stuff starting to get unpacked and installed. The Mini was becoming just a bit to small as my wife could not get the car seat in and out of the Mini when it was empty let alone with a baby in it. We just needed a a 4 door car. The JCW will be missed and was well loved when we had it. We replaced it with a new 2011 Subaru STI, not bad for a family mobile.

The sun setting on the MINI

The sun rising on the new STI

The STI is the only other car I'd consider over the MINI. Looks good. Congrats. How does the handling feel coming off the JCW? Sure is a lot more car.

How were you able to even sell it? I can't get rid of mine for the life of me. Every dealer mini/bmw included has low balled me big time! What was a 37K MSRP car is now worth just half the price after only 2 years and 11,500 Miles. Sure NADA and Kelly Blue Book might give impressive trade in values but no dealer will even come close to those numbers. If I had it do over again I would have never bought the car.

To tell the truth it was the hardest negotiation I ever had for a car deal. They started low on the trade but as soon as i got up and walked out side and started to get in my car they were quick to come around with a good offer. Depending on were you live it is not the right time to sell or trade a convertible no dealer is going to want a rag top siting on there lot in the winter.

It is a lot more car for sure much faster and so far I think it handles as good if not better. The stock tires on the STI are very good and the run flats on the JCW were junk! So that might have some thing to do with it. The brakes on the JCW are more aggressive and feel like they stop you a lot faster not sure if it is just the pads will see as time goes on.

That sounds about right, possible a grand low. With thread on the low trade in prices for the JCW, I talked with my local dealer about that. I told him that I wasn't in the market right now, but what about in two years when I WILL BE in the market. He told me, barring unforeseen circumstances, that I could count on a $26K trade in on a new Mini at that time. I said, how am I going to be certain of that price. He went back into the store and had it typed up and then he, the dealer's owner signed it. Can't get much better than that. Also, he knows that I will be going with either the 3rd Generation JCW or the PacMan 2-door. Oh well. I still enjoy my Lil Guy to death. No problems, goes like stink and economical too.
