cheap snow wheels that fit a JCW?

Hey guys

Got a JCW on order, and I am looking for a cheap set of wheels that will clear the brakes for snows. I would love it if there was an older GenI or cheap third party wheel that would fit. Anyone running something that fits?

How much do you want to spend? I have a set of Enkei Performance Imola 17x7 that fit. Those are my current winter wheels.

PM me a shipped price, I'm in CT (06371). Do you have them with tires/tpms?

Oh I didn't know you were asking to buy haha. I'm not selling them since I need them for this winter. I do have tire and TPMS though.

They're on TireRack.com. The wheels are $140 each, and the tire I have (Pirelli Winter 210 Sottozero Serie II) are $153 each. Plus ~$200 for the TPMS, and probably $120 for shipping, you're looking at almost $1500.

hah whoops. Yes, I had saved my $1500 set of 135i wheel and snows with the hope they would fit, but now it's just the tires that would. I should probably sell those and buy what I need vs. removing tires.

Somewhere there is a wheel fitment guide that should show you which wheels will fit your JCW. I have seen that information for the 1st generation JCW here on NAM but I did not check for that info for the second gen. as I did not need to know. You can always figure that piece of the puzzle out then look for a set of wheels here on NAM in the marketplace.

yeah, trying to do that very thing. I hoped posting here would keep me from buying something that should but doesn't fit.

Now that I think about it, it may have been a google search for wheels that fit a JCW that turned up the link that was not on NAM. I cannot recall for sure. But you can always do a search on google both ways, JCW Wheels and JCW Wheels North American Motoring.

ahh, just found it on mini II forum. Looks like the JCW brakes from genII preclude most older wheels. Thanks

Please share, I can't for the life of me find that posting. As the owner of a 2011 JCW living in the North East, I'm very interested. I'd hoped a set of 17's from my old 2004 "S" would work, but I haven't bolted them on yet.

Just put in an order for that same combo in silver! Minus the TPMS as we don't need them in Canada.

Are the tuner lugs included with the Enkeis any good? I'm hoping the dealership doesn't screw it up. I made sure it was clear to the Sales Manager that they are not MINI OE wheels nor are they run-flats.

snows

I'm in the same boat. I called Tirerack and was told only 17" will work. They have several packages starting around $1000, non runflat and no TPMS. I'm primarily interested in downsizing the tire,..well the width anyway, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

At some point I read that the Mini website offered a 185/17 but couldn't find it.

You may be able to go for something slighly skinnier but no way you are getting a 16" alloy on a new JCW - some 17" don't even fit. If you want to downsize wheels for winter, you'll need to "downsize" to a MCS so to speak.

What I found is you would not save much on the wheel cost for 16" package anyways. Biggest issue I found is the standard 17" tire dimensions on the MINI are not as common - so far fewer choices of winter tires.

The 185/50/17 is listed in the Mini Manual on page 126 (2011 manual) as the maximum tire size for running tire chains. I have yet to find one outside of an odd ball rallye tire.

"Only certain types of fine-link snow chains have been tested by the manufacturer of your MINI, classified as road-safe and recommended. Contact
your MINI dealer for more details.

Only attach snow chains in pairs to the front
wheels with the following tires.
> 175/65 R 15 M+S
> 175/60 R 16 M+S
John Cooper Works:
> 185/50 R 17 86 H M+S XL RSC"

FWIW.

They're pretty nice actually although last winter wasn't very nice to them. Just try to keep them clean and you'll be fine.
