2011 JCW + Catch Can???

Hey all. Can any of you 2011 JCW owners comment on oil catch cans? I have been following the ongoing saga of carbon buildup that appears to be common to the R56 engine.

It seems like an oil catch can (+regular seafoam) is the preventative treatment of choice. The rationale seems sound to me. I've been following he BSH thread:
BSH Catch Can Commentary

This brings me to my question. For the 2011 JCW has the PCV plumbing been modified at all. I'm trying to find out if the catch can alone is enough or if the dual boost tap has to be installed as well. I realize their are varying schools of thought on the need for the dual boost tap (pro/con).

Anyone have any guidance? Thanks.

should be enough as there is only one line coming from the cover.

Why do you need both the dual boost tap and the OCC? What's the purpose of the dual boost tap?

Plugs the intake Manifold side of the valve cover to route all fume through one port so they all go the the OCC.

To be perfectly honest, I don't understand enough about the PCV setup on this engine to really comment on whether the dual boost tap is really essential or non-essential.

Sorry bigprfed22, guess we were typing at the same time.

When I fly to Vegas and pick up my car, I think I'm going to install the catch can before I drive it home to Cali.

Anyone have any recommendations for what tools I should bring with me to install the catch can. I'll probably end up going with the BSH.

Thanks

BigGripper - see my post below regarding the 2011 PCV change/carbon issue.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...n-pcv-fix.html

I'll be interested to follow your progress on where/how you install a catch can on 2011 "n18" engine versus the catch can install on a pre 2011 "n16" engine. I have been thinking of installing a catch can also, but am confussed on how to install it since there is only one PCV line in the 2011's going to the turbo.

Thanks...

I'll let you know what I find. I suspect that the setup on the 2011 JCW that I'm buying isn't changed from 2010 as they did bring the VANOS technology over to the JCW lineup.

You know... I stand corrected. You are 100% correct. I now recall reading somewhere that the JCW engines are the same as prior years and only the non-JCW's got the n18 engine in 2011 - forgot about that...

I guess I'll need to find a non-JCW 2011 mini owner for my catch can question(s).

Thanks for the reminder.
