I know there are a few threads about this already. Here is one: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...atherette.html

What it boils down to: there are a few who recommend cloth but the VAST majority (myself included) recommend leatherette. The reasons are in that thread.

I prefer the cloth over leatherette because it is more comfortable. Leatherette is a sweaty surface in the summer & it is icy cold in the winter; and the cloth fabric is just as easy to keep clean as the leatherette. Additionally, the cloth won't get wrinkly and develop cracks over time like the leatherette tends to do, just mho. Good luck with your build!

I prefer leatherette because it's easier to wipe things off if you spill something. Also, I feel that sweat and dirt can build up easier over the years with cloth since cloth can absorb more.

That's just my opinion though since I like my car to stay clean and not have the possibility of acquiring that old car smell.

I live in Colorado where the air is very dry. I had cloth seats on my 05 and I hated them. Every time I got out of the car I'd get shocked from the static they generated. I also disliked the fact that they were scratchy when wearing shorts. On my 08 I ordered leather and I am very happy with them. You may not have the static electricity problem in Georga, so cloth may be a better option over the sticky leatherette seats.

I like the cloth better, but the leatherette will be much more durable and will likely never crack like leather does. Condition it a couple times and it's pretty decent. I'd get the cloth/leather combo if I were to do it over again.

I like the cloth / leather I have in my JCW. You don't slide around as much, and it looks cool.

Looks good! I would have gotten this color/interior line, but the MINI was supposed to be my wife's car until 6 months later she wanted something else and I inherited the MINI. Maybe next time!

I have cloth too, love them here in Colorado (MCS, but same seats). The static electricity shock doesn't come from the seats, it's the carpet (which is amplified if you have carpeted floor mats). A little spray bottle mixture of water and Downy sprayed on the carpet, and the static shock problem goes away. Problem isn't unique to Mini either, my daughters' 08 Yaris has the same problem, until you spray a fine mist of Downy on the carpet.

I was all for the cloth, until I saw a MiniS with that cloth interior that was one year old. Doesn't look like it wears well. Then I visited the Mini dealer and saw the leatherette. Really looks nice, plus if you spill coffee, like I do, it is much easier to clean up, and doesn't smell up the car. That Red/black leather cloth combination looks awfully good though. Maybe the best of both worlds.

FWIW, my JCW is over a year old and the cloth seats still look new. I'm really pleased with the cloth seats.

For sure. Spilled coffee on my seat about 3 weeks after we bought the car, I was so mad at myself. Wiped it up with some damp napkins and it looked like new. I'm sold on the leatherette.

I have leatherette and I love it. I would have gone cloth, but this was pre-built at a Virginia dealer so I snagged it.

I have had a BMW with leatherette, and my wife's Mini also has it. I think it looks good, and I like the low-maintenence nature of it. I decided to order it on my JCW Clubman. Saving $1-2K doesn't hurt either! That will pay for a lot of driving!

Personal preference obviously, and great points are made here (and elsewhere).

We have 3 Mini's in our family ('08 S, 08' S Clubman, & '09 JCW), all have "punch leather", and we love em.

Wears well, cleans easily, feels "right", no sliding, looks great still, and also gives off that leather smell, although somewhat less than when new.

I've test driven Mini's with leatherette and cloth, and excellence of the car appeared lessened to me, especially at this price point.

My humble opinion.

Naturally, after stepping on the throttle, all will be forgiven.

i have cloth in my 03 with 180,000km.. no wear issues.. looks good, no sliding, no temparature issues and no staining = love it. My friends leatherette has some cracks, but think it's how gentel you are with both.

Leatherette.... I don't slide, and if you're freezing, move somewhere warmer, and no swamping or staining here. The leatherette in both of mine is crack-free and just a delight.

I have leatherette and was worried I wasn't going to like it but have been pleasantly surprised that it is really nice. And I dont find it cold or slippery at all. In fact sometimes I am wondering if I have heated seats and didn't realize it or something. It looks real nice as well, 2 tone with black surfaces and dark grey perforated side bolsters and half round area in the front middle. I guess they are all like that, all the ones I looked at at the dealer had leather. So far no complaints with Leatherette.

I generally dislike cloth because over time, it starts to smell, regardless of how clean you keep it.

I got option "C". The car was ordered with cloth seats, but about every other option in the book. The person that ordered it backed out and the car sat for a bit without any takers (everybody wanted leatherette in a loaded car). The dealer took the voided deposit and had custom leather put in. The leather is MUCH nicer than the factory seats. It's more like couch leather, plus the leather is perforated in all the right places to help it breathe. I had cloth in my last Mini and it was okay. These seats are great (and I didn't have to pay a penny extra for it).
