Cloth vs. Leatherette

I had Cloth on order and u just changed it to black leatherlette. It was no cost to me either way.

I did not get heated seats or a sunroof...they are both the same seat and feel as comforatble it is just the fabric.

What do you guys think cloth or leatherette.?

Well, I went with the leatherette, but I did get the winter package which includes the heated seats.

Sometimes I wish I had cloth because of the dog (Golden), but the leatherette cleans up real nice. I figure it will last much longer, if I keep the MCS for more than 5 years.

This go round I got the cloth seats. On my 05 S I had leatherette.
My nickel's worth:

1) Leatherette made the interior seem "cold" in an interior designer sense. Maybe it was because I had the rubber S floor mats?
2) Leatherette could get COLD in winter and HOT in summer. Somewhat the antithesis of 1).
2) Leatherette was VERY easy to keep clean, and almost looked like real leather.
3) Cloth seats "tone down" the interior and give it warmth.
4) Cloth seats NEVER once got hot on my behind while down South this summer.

Round, IMHO, goes to cloth.

Do the cloth seats hold dog hair? I don't intend to bring the dog in the Mini, but the hair comes in on my clothes. I usually buy a leather interior so that the dog hair doesn't collect.

If I hadn't done the rooster red/ black sport seats, I'd have gone for leatherette. My girlfriend's X3 has them, and they look great. But I love my two-tones.

I read several people here on NAM say the leatherette does breathe at all. This made it a non-option for me here in Sacramento where we routinely have 100+ days in the summer. Might not matter to you in Toronto...

I have kids. If I didn't go with leather, I would have done the leatherette.

They look better than I ever expected (very close to real leather IMO) and they clean up super-easy. Living in Washington heat & whether they "breath" or no is a non-issue.

leatherette is awesome! easy to clean, almost everyone who's been in my car thought it was leather - but doesnt have the leather smell. its just one less thing to have to take care of, that's always a plus!

unless your topless and sweaty, you're gonna stay put in the cloth seats a little bit better...if you track it, this might be important (esp. if you don't have racing harnesses).

One of my reasons for leatherette, was that my race tires will not leave dirty marks on the matherial..but with cloth i will have to shampoo

I got cloth to "option-up" for the Texas heat (sort of a self-designed hot-weather package) but if I really wanted the look of the cloth-leather combo, or even leatherette, I could have gone that route and probably would not have given it a second thought. Kids, pets might have been another consideration. As it is, I've been very pleased with the cloth seats as I have been with cloth on my '03 (which also gets driven every day). Still looks great! I'm warm natured and so cloth (given the Texas sun) was the best option for me from a personal thermostatic perspective.

Our '05 MCSC has leather.

Our two 06 Coopers have leatherette.

Of the two, I actually prefer the leatherette to the real stuff. It looks just as good, is ALMOST the same to the touch (real stuff IS just a bit softer), and it wears, much, much, better.

Cloth... seems too low-end to be in a nice car, IMO. Stick with the leatherette, you won't regret it.

Should've known that was going to ruffle some feathers !!

I said it was MY OPINION !!

But hey, to each their own. You might think my "wannabe leather" appears to be low-end.

Oh... and another thing I don't like about cloth interiors (while I'm making friends here )... it stains. Leather and leatherette... stuff wipes right off of it. Hmmmmmm... why do I still not allow any food or drinks, other than water, in my MINIs ?? Because I'm a sick, sick man.

I went with the leatherette for two reasons.

First I sat my rear in all three options and really liked the stiffer firmer ride the leatherette offered. I have a back injury and it seems to work well with that.

Second the leatherette holds up so much better than the other options. Lets face it, Leather and cloth both wear faster, but in different ways. Leatherette is much easier to keep clean. Also I won't feel as bad about putting that flowered seat cover on it if I choose to.

My DH's business involves repairs/dying to all the above. He was so happy I went with the leatherlette.

Just think of all those wild little leatherettes that had to be captured to give you that up-scale look! The cloth (maybe) came from the purest of cotton from the fields of West Texas.

Don't forget static electricity. Here in Southern CA, it is very dry most of the year. Everytime I sit in a cloth seats car, I get shock by the door when I get out. It almost never happen in a leather or leatherette seats car, only cloth seats.

I went with cloth because leather and leatherette both get too hot in the summer months. I think they both wear the same. The leather and leatherette will eventually get creases in it and it will start to crack. Either way, get what you feel is most comfortable for you.

That's an easy question to answer. If you're a sloppy, leatherette. If not, cloth......

I like cloth better... cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter, and they don't crack.

If you think ease-of-cleaning is the only pro to leatherette over cloth, at least you have a good sense of humor !
