Has Anyone Chipped a 2009 JCW????

Hey Guys

I was wondering if anyone has chipped a 2009 JCW? I have recently purchased a '09 JCW Clubbie and was wondering if anyone new about chipping the car and how significant the feel would increase too. Please let me know...thanks!

Andrew

I have been watching for stuff for the JCW and although I have run across stuff for the standard R56 S, I have seen nothing for the JCW as of yet.

I remain kind of baffled by the lack of aftermarket chip tuning available for MINI's, there is only one I am currently aware of and it involves a "piggyback" ECU module rather than re-flashing the OEM unit. There are numerous companies that do re-flashes for VW/Audi and Subie's and the MINI's software can't be that much harder to crack. My guess is it's all about the economy of scale, there's just a lot more potential VAG/Sub turbo car owners out there to sell to versus MINI turbos.

The OEM MIN R56.55.57 ECU is not a walk in the park like the Subies. So it isn't that the economy stinks it is the OEM ECU that does! We are working on this everyday and hope to have more information soon.

PS: We did post dyno results on my 09 JCW with some tuning done. I will try to find the link but it is on NAM. Results were VERY promising!

Excellent. Please keep us apprised of any advances in cracking the ECU. Many are waiting.

I've had my R56 JCW tuned here in Australia by Evolve Technik (Part of Peter Fitzgerald Racing Services). Combined with the forge intercooler, forge muffler delete inlet pipe and the forge replacement for the dump valve my JCW is putting out approx 250hp and 260 foot pound of torque.

The numbers are nice but the real pleasure is in the driving. This tune is smooth. Far smoother than stock and the power just keeps building right to rev limiter. There is no drop off in power at all at the redline it still just keeps pulling like crazy. The slight turbo lag has also been halved.

Tuned this is a very fast car and a real pleasure to drive.

Seems i'm running similar figures to you, i had mine done by Performance Torque over here in England:

www.p-torque.co.uk

However i'm getting those readings with just the remap... I'd imagine with all the modifications you've mentioned above added to the mix i might be able to get more....

Hey USA. Catch-up time. Who's going to come out with the US tune first?

I think Revolution Mini Works has some pretty promising progress so far, on the S, so its only a matter of time before its on to the JCWs! Ive been keeping a close eye on it and I guess im just waiting to swoop in and get something reliable, vs those piggy backs

If you read the thread...you'll see that he's done a JCW. Although he has still more tuning to do on it, he did infact do it. I hear the JCW ECU is even more touchy than the S.....

Jans has tuned a JCW and I had my JCW ecu read yesterday by a dimsport tuner here in Hawaii (had 18 miles on the odometer when it was read).

Should be loading the new tune VERY soon. Possibly as early as today.

Would reflashing change the original warranty?

Absolutely.... if you had a problem (anything that would make them check to see what ROM was in the ECM) and they saw you had installed a different tune, no doubt they would deny the claim (assuming it was related.... obviously, if a taillight stops working, then no relation)

I got a mild tune yesterday. I hadn't drove the car around stock long enough to get used to it, but I do notice a difference driving around the neighborhood. I'll get a stronger tune after I get my boost gauge installed.

Is there an easy way to save your original tune, then retune your ECU and set it back to original?

when the tuner reads your ecu the map is stored on his machine. he modifies the map and save the modified map with a new name.
if you want the stock map back the tuner loads it exactly the same way he loads the modified map.

the maps are stored on his computer just like a regular file. it only takes a few minutes for him to reload the map.

Some of the VW/Audi chip tuners offer alternate maps built into their reflash. Simple procedures using your cars' stock controls can toggle back and forth between stock and performance. On the other hand, based on an experience I had years ago with a friendly Audi dealer's service manager, reflashing an ecu shouldn't automatically through up any red flags on the dealer's computer. Unless the technician knows exactly all the parameters of the stock map, he would likely not know what had been altered. That said, if you blow up your engine, you can bet that they will check it so you would need to go back to stock.

Those numbers are inflated!

In the US, they would only be 182bhp with 208ft/lb with the current exchange rate....

Seriously, those are AWESOME numbers. I'll let you know what Jan at RMW does with my JCW in 2 weeks. I can only hope I get that...

I'm so impressed.

Congrats.

Is this one of those situations in life where if you have to ask, "How much does this cost?", you probably can't afford it? :(

What is this price range we're talking about?
