Gasoline of choice...

I am sure that this is somewhere else in here, but let's just say the internet here in Taji is spotty at best. What does everyone here use for gas, octane wise? My 2004 MCS said to use Premium only, but there was much discussion and we came to the conclusion that 89 octane works just was well. And it does. Anyone have any experience yet with 89-93 octane? Thanks! Forgot to mention....this is 2009 JCW factory specific in case someone bops into the JCW forum!

I always use 93 from Shell stations only. It's the only Top Tier retailer near me. I haven't used anything but that so I can't really comment.

For me, it's worth the $.20/gallon for the peace of mind knowing that I don't have to worry about any consequences of using lower octane gas.

sad to say, Oklahoma seems to only sell 91. You can find 92/93 every now and then, but it is very rare. I'll keep running 91 (or when I get the car, I will run 91). Thanks for the info and help!

Your octane is 91 because of altitude! You will see different octanes in different parts of the country or state which is all based on altitude. Like here in WA we have 92. Some parts of the country make a subgrade 84 then boost the octane with ethanol. Kind of like that octane booster you buy from a parts store. Most all those are ethanol. Not to good when your running gas with 10% in it already (in some places).

thanks! I did not know why it was so different everywhere. Back in Indiana/Illinois, it was always 93. I was stationed in NM for awhile, and they had 90/91. Could not figure it out....

Don't run anything lower than premium. Your car will have less power, get less mileage. In the end, you gain nothing.

+1 on the Shell premium for me, 98% of the time!!

Chevron premium only for all of our cars that call for premium. Which is all of them. Never run anything else.

It's a top tier gasoline and most stations are lit well and are pretty clean. I actually don't mind paying a little more for the gas to get the cleaner station.

I prefer Chevron. I did read an article in Consumer reports many years ago that said Techron was the heat. I also prefer newer stations that the tanks are new. I have a friend who paid the price for buying cheap gas.. He went to one of those Mini Marts got gas there because it was 10c cheaper. He ended up getting a tank fuel of water. Sure the gas station ended up paying for damages.. But if you just spent $6000 on a Supercharger would you really want a tank full of water at all? I myself have an old vehicle and was troubleshooting fuel delivery problems.. I removed my gas tank, i was looking for rust and scale. The inside wasnt too bad for an over 30 year old Jeep. Anyhoo's I took my filter(sock) off. I drove around for two tanks and it drove a hair better. Then i went to an Older Minimart/Texaco w/techron added.. After that fill up in under 1hr my Jeep started to stall and run outta gas... So i ran that tank low dropped it again and found a Ton of sludge,,, Never got gas there again. I would hate to think what the insides of peoples tanks who go to older gas stations..And so much for experimenting with changing brands.

LOng story short

I now have three fuel filters... One in the tank, one on my electric and a glass one up before the carburator.
