Your worst 2009 JCW mileage

24. 5 first tank
17.9 second tank (all city driving and bombing around)
33.6 third tank (avg driving from Wash DC to Raleigh and back)

Your mileage may vary. :-)

I'm pleased.

1st tank 29.7 mpg around town.

2nd tank 34.1 mpg ( I filled up and drove up to Gainesville from Daytona and Filled up when I got back and used the old write it down method ) Ran about 70/75 going up at 5:30 am and the traffic coming home caused a lot of WOT passing. Ran avarage about 70.
I'm pretty well more then pleased with the comfort, performance & the fuel economy of this Mini JCW.

Are you guys using the OBC, or calculating it out? I'm wondering if the JCW OBC is more accurate than the MC/MCS OBC, which seems habitually optimistic.

hahaha, glad I saw this thread updated because I wanted to share. Had been getting around 29mpg OBC, one mpg less calc'ed via miles/gals @ refill. Just spent the week commuting from NYC to Piscataway driving in rush hour w/a heavy foot, point & shoot @ every opening... started w/a fresh tank & reset the OBC.... dropped to 23.5mpg for the tank! I'm back on LI now, and mpg is back near 28mpg.

We check the MPG at every fill up, with nearly 6000 miles. It is generally 32 - 33 most every time. Have experienced one time at 46 and a couple at 28, then there was the 80 miles during my first on track DE day (VIR) at 14.5 miles per gallon and 50 smiles per gallon.

After 4,000 km's I'm getting 7.8 - 8.2 L/100km.

What that is in Miles/U.S.Gal or Miles/ImpGal I have no idea, except its about half the consumption of my brother-in-laws big V8. And he can't keep up for long!

To all.. I'm 100% sure @ this point my speedo is off by 7.5% at 30mph; from multiple radar units. My mpg average in the OBC is now around 29 mpg when I drive it, and 29.4 when my wife does; with average mph being 32.5, all averaged over +1000 miles.

It should go without saying, but I'll note it anyway, with the 7.5% overly optimistic mph it reduces your -real- miles driven by that percentage. So lets say it says you drove 1000 miles on the odo, and you bought 34 gallons of gas in that time; should be 29.4mpg. BUT in reality because the speedo is running fast, you didn't actually drive the 1000 miles stated on your odo, you drove only 925 real miles. But you still bought 34 gallons of gas in that time; well that's only 27.2 mpg. Bummer.

Don't confuse the speedo with the odo. BMW products have notoriously optomistic speedos, but the odo's are dead on.

Jerry

That, I never would have imagined. Thanx for that. I wonder how/why tho. I'd expect the ODO calculation to come from the same source as the speedo... wheel revolution & tire radius; over a time period to get speed.

I picked up "Ruby" first week of Sept. 09' JCW chili red clubman. Only got 24 mpg on the first tank, but now after 3,500 mi. actual mpg calc averages 29.2 . I'm jazzed the car runs so smooth compared to my 02' "S" it dosn't feel as though it's working as hard to put out the same performance. i still intand to upgrade the suspension, but it's not really that bad as stock.

the speedos have a built in buffer so while the data is coming from the same place, the speedos get a little extra added before it's results are displayed.

I get 24.5 city driving. I haven't noticed much change in my range. Curious - at what rpm range do you shift and how spirited is your driving?

This tank was good for me.

I just went 388.8 miles on 12.2 gal. of gas. Includes both city and highway driving. I did have the AIR on and going to Largo and back I ran 75 to 80 mph.
I'm telling you-all. "The more I drive this car the better I like it"
32.4 MPG without trying to get top milage is not bad at all.

wow almost 400 miles in a single tank. I've always wondered if I would be able to get at least 350 on a tank cuz I never like stopping to get gas when driving from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
