$39,550 for a JCW

I was just at Mini of Mt View for a fruitless trip for a part. While there I looked at a JCW.... $32k+ sticker, $3k+ in dealer installed options, and a $3.5k markup for just shy of $40k out the door. Sure it's a nice car, but $40k?

Sad thing is, I'm pretty sure they'll get it.....

And it needs either the JCW suspension or coilovers to look and drive the part.

It's a big investment on a front wheel drive car. I like everything about my MINI except the FWD.

there are dealer that do not mark up over sticker. classic mini dose not what you spec. is what you pay for.

Am I the only one that thinks that mini should offer all the performance parts and the aero kit included in the msrp? I just dont think many are going to get all the upgrades and pay 40k.

I'm not looking...

we have a Clubman on order at $22k and change.... But $40k puts the Mini in what I would call close to nosebleed-inducing rarified air! $3.5k markup is just shy of 10%, purely for the privalage of buying at MoMV.... Even at $36k, it's far from cheap.

That's the beauty of the MINI. Buy it the way you want it. I happen to think my JCW at more than 40k is a bargain! I happen to really like the "toys".Heck I was ready to buy a 70k BMW before I drove an R56. I'm so happy I did. BTW if MINI included the aero kit or the works suspension I'd have bought something else. Inskip MINI charged msrp. I love it!

09 JCW

I took delivery a couple days ago of my 09JCW. Granted i do not have allot of miles on the vehicle yet, and i did not buy the JCW to spend 100% of my time on the track, but I did buy it to DRIVE!( I had a 05JCW prior). All i can say so far the car is great. A well adapted performance car right from the factory.Smoother in performance aspects over my 05 and feels right at home in the twisties. I simply love the way it handles and the power curves simply says, "Come on, is this all you expect of me. I'm ready to go when you are on any road condition".

I have read many reviews pro and con re: the new JCW. I'm here to tell you , criticize it all you want. I highly doubt anyone who has driven this vehicle as a new owner or not could honestly say they are disappointed . Sure it is pricy, but be sure comparing car for car. Does the car you are comparing the JCW to have the handling capabilities, does it have the power curve hp, how about looks ,style and comfort. Is it as sophisticated in a technological perspective as well as a overall environmentally friendly perspective. keep in mind warranties and service of the OTHER car. The JCW is truely a sleeper on the hi-way, all wake up when you zig or zag past them in the twisties or open road. Try it out and of coarse you will judge.
Be sure if you get the multi-function steering wheel you get a leather one. I ended up with a hard rubber type multi-wheel function wheel even though I ordered the performance package . This steering wheel is aweful, It is very coarse and gritty. My hands were hot , uncomfortable and irritated after just a short while of driving. My wife and friends felt the same way. I have changed to a JCW multi-function wheel and it is great. Im please with the rest of the vehicle so far. happy motoring

Holy cow! When I bought my lightly optioned '02 M3, it cost $46K. $45K for a JCW must have all the goodies, plus a markup.

Ciao,

Jeff

You bet...I saw two fully loaded cars on order at Alexander for around 45K as well, but will they be special little cars. One was A Choclate Brown Clubman JCW,Chocolate Lounge leather with everything you could imagine and the other was a coupe with all the JCW goodies...Any really loaded car is going to be in that range. My 07 JCW was well over 40 K and it's keeping a couple of far more expensive Germans in the Garage .Never regretted the purchase for a moment, the car is just stupid fun...Enjoy....

You can get a brand new 08 Corvette with $50k sticker for $41k right now....I know the JCW is sweet, but at what point does it get you looking at other performance cars? Obviously the Vette is not a DD, but you get the idea.

Well....

I guess Mini is smarter than I am. If there are happy buyers at the $40k+ price point, more power to them. I guess I'm just cheap...

I was filling up my '02 MCS at the gas station last week when the station owner ran out and asked me...actually it was more like he told me: "Hey, don't those cars cost something like 50 grand or so?"

7 years after the MINI is released and people still think it costs way more than it really does. This only proves Matts point that MINI can fit a huge financial range and people will accept it.

Tough to compare a Lotus when no matter how badass it is, it's still pretty much the most impractical car on earth.

The price points make the comparison...

but I wouldn't argue with the practiality point. But really, in just 30 seconds of looking at Buy It Now between $39,500 and $40,000 found quite a collection of interesting cars, including a 135i, a 335i and a 550i!

When I was looking for an SUV for the family in 2001, I learned how the BMW game is played. Base price is pretty good, even a great value. But you have to watch the options or you can really increase the price point. That's why we ended up with an MDX.

And no, I'm not a Mini hater, we've ordered our second. But both our Minis were much closer to base than some of the optioned up cars that I've seen.

Different strokes for different folks!

The JCW is reasonable as a lowend performance car, even after you add the almost mandatory suspension upgrades (and aero kit). I think it competes more with the BMW 128i than the 135i both in price and performance. At around 35k you can get a nice one of either. Depends on what floats your boat and whether you need 4 decent sized seats or not.

I agree that there are many options in the $40k range....at $40k I'd be in a 335 coupe at 0.9% APR. However, I ordered with very few options on the JCW so I'm at $30k instead.

no way in hell would I pay 40 Gs for a MINI. I love my mini but at 30g's its alot smaller less practical than others in that same range. Make no mistake I love my car and would never trade her for anything. But when you push 40 grand you can get a way better car thats rear wheel drive also. 40 grand, its for those who purily have cash to burn. Before i spent 40 gs on a jcw, Id have to buy a challenge MINI.

No markup...just heavily optioned.
