Looking to start a tuning discussion. I have some questions about inspection after you install a downpipe and remove the code with tuning.
Does anyone have experience with this ? I have a 2019 3door S. Just got tuned stage one by dervtech using BM3

It will depend on how your state does inspections and how your tune is completed. If state does a visual inspection will have to do a "test" pipe or hollow the cat out.
Also depends on how tuner fixes check engine light. I had a stage 2 tune that simply turned off smog so light wasn't on. Found out when I went to do emissions and failed due to the system not being able to read. That said I'm putting car back to stock and will have a miltek catless downpipe for sale this month.

Makes sense. How much of a difference in power did you see after the catless downpipe? Honestly I only want it for the sound and an aggressive burbble tune. I was searching the forum and apparently manic has a downpipe that doesn't set the check engine light. They space out the 2nd o2 bung or something. But idk if he still makes it or not
Just going catless without a tune won't see much. I had the stage two on for just over a year and only one autox session. My plan was to race more but once I hit 100k I became leery of pushing too hard. I also broke my ac the last time I raced.
The burbles were insane, gun shots out the back. I also work in a parking garage and 100% annoyed everyone.
The miltek has a 6 inch bung spacer but I still get codes. You can purchase a little mini cat that goes under the o2 sensor to get by. I also know that Mario on the forums makes a catless DP that is said to not throw a code.
Now with Dinan having their tune out and producing similar numbers to a catless stage2 tune. Unsure if I tuned now if I would go catless outside of sound. I run a remus exhaust with active muffler, no resonator so can be straight piped. Sounded amazing.

If I was going to go catless I would tune as well. I have the jcw pro exhaust and I gutted the second cat. It sounds so much better now! I'm stage 1 by dervtech, no other engine mods just suspension. but I definitely want to get a bfm. I'm thinking airtec. I'm torn on replacing the stock air box. I tried a bms intake and my cars idle was all messed up and set a code. I have a 2019 3door s with the oval sensor
I suggest having a conversation with @Lou@Prototype-R about your tuning concerns. He can tailor your tune to pretty much anything you want based on your current and future mods.
I believe New Jersey only does OBD emissions testing, similar to New York? If so, he has a trick that your readiness monitors are always “green” for testing. I have a catless downpipe on my Clubman, and have passed 4 years testing in Connecticut, and 3 years testing in New York.

Man, I wish I wasn't already invested in bootmod3 and dervtech. Otherwise I would be ordering a tune with a catless down pipe right now. I tried to ask my tuner about it but they are from the UK so he was unsure if ot would pass in the states. Either way thank you for the info! Good stuff, at least it can be done

I bought a 2015 F-56 while back, hot-tuned by Renn Haus. it already had 3" Magnaflow S.S. exh. & a S.S.DP that looked exactly like Mario's DP (come to find out later). only downstream oxy. sensor tube was 2&1/2" longer than Mario's.It also had AEM pump for water/methanol injection. I had no idea what kind of DP was on it, so I bought & had Mario's DP installed AFTER I threw codes & burned downstream oxy. sensor. since I've got 1 year left on 2 year warranty (from Mini) I'm DRIVIN' ! I just bought a Sport Cat. (90deg.) that will screw into side of Mario's DP & oxy. sensor will screw in top. I'm not putting on Sport Cat. until I throw CEL and I've got brand-new Downstream (aft. cat.) oxy. sensor to install at same time . so, let's see....... and that, my friends is the story so far (my state has no inspections, I just got tired of yellow CEL) I've got 2700 mi. on this aft. cat. oxygen sensor. Turns out, the code I threw (5#s) were all DP related & 1 of those was LEAN MIXTURE, so, I don't believe the mini-cat. would work.TO ADD : I threw 4 #s - FF12B3 - cat.less DP ? , 11CF30 - fuel mixture, 11801- lean mixture, & 12B304 - oxy. sensor related . I have an additional amount of miles now & I think because the downstream tube was longer, that's why I threw a lean code. I'm still testing but I'm of the opinion that MarioKart's S.S Cat.less Dp with Downstream Oxy. Sensor closer to Exhaust is THE DEAL ! P.S. If anyone throws a Rich Code & needs a Sport Cat. give me a hoot & I'll give you a Deal ! TO ADD #2 - the orig. cat.less DP was installed 37K mi. ?, I threw CEL @ 43.2K mi. , I installed MarioKart's DP @ 45.6K mi.(2400 on Oxy. sensor) as of yesterday 12/23 I have 47.8K mi. So, I have a total of 4.4K on Oxy. sensor & 2.2K on MarioKart's S.S. Cat.less DP. / 4/10/24 I now have 48,874 on odo. 5643 mi. on Oxy. Sensor & 3200 mi. on MarioKart's Cat.less DP everything o.k.. I now have 49,123 & still good. 12/19/24 & I got 50,763 mi.on ride now, no problem. MarioKart builds THE cat.less DP. I dyno'd @ 300flhp & 247 @ whl. & 350 ft./lb.s of Torque What Stage Tune Is That ?

Chiming in for everyone's info:
I was running (prior to latest changes) the Dinan flash with an Evolution Racewerks mandrel DP + 200cell CAT and would occasionally get the CEL for the 2nd O2. I dont want to screw with the emissions software for reasons already mentioned here, so got a really inexpensive and nice "tunable" O2 spacer. This has a circlip and 3 inserts that fit into the spacer end that is in the exhaust path and have 3 different size holes so you can get it just right with the sensor. Ever since, no CEL and car had an amazing bump in performance from the DP. The difference between catless and a 200 cell race cat is negligible and not noticeable from a performance perspective + the race cat tames a completely wide open exhaust to where its enough to make you love the sound but not so overwhelming that you can't live with it daily. I get constant compliments on the sound of my car under throttle, but it's also paired with a full Ti exhaust which has a very unique tone unlike anything else on the market using other materials. When open (I have a flap) and in Sport, it is like gunshots out the back and you can see peeps or cops on the side of the road turn heads immediately when it fires off. There are like 3 levels of sound fully open and top tune: a gurgle/burble at low speed off throttle, what we would consider the typical MINI pops/bangs albeit a bit louder and then "mental mode" when you are driving it hard or feathering the throttle at the right RPM point, as I mentioned straight up sounds like LOUD, SHARP gunshots out the back - makes all the other guys running loud crackling exhausts in their HEMIs or whatever even take notice.

I used the largest opening and still get an occasional CEL when switching between Green and the other two modes or on a cold start and highway drive. I am doing a transmission/clutch build next week and at that time I will throw in the middle sized insert and see how that works out.
Mine is on stage 1 and I'm not sure if the extra noise from a decat down pipe is something I would want. I have a Topspeed Pro 1 catback and it's already fairly loud. Power wise - ya I'd like to go Stage 2 but need tire upgrades.
UPDATE: The middle sized insert still throws but only very occasionally now, so this weekend I will switch out the mid for the small one and that will be done.
Also on the note of tires, I have the best street extreme performance tires money can buy - Michelin PS4s - and will go through a completely brand new set up front in 6 months. Widebody and getting more meat up there will be huge money saver.

as far as my DP, the distance your Downstream Oxy. Sensor is from your DP was the issue. the distance from my orig. DP (installed by Renn Haus of Sarasota) was 2 & 1/2" thus LEAN #s on CEL, the distance from MarioKart's DP was 0". they were identical other than that. I now have more mi. on Mario's DP & downstream oxy. sensor NO PROBLEMO Just Turned 49K Life Is Good. About to turn 52K, life is better.

Can you run the Bootmod3 Stage 2 without the catless DP? Would it just not be as good, or would it actually hurt the engine? I have removed my resonator but still have both cats for smog. Also, I have a valved muffler box in the back to allow free flow when needed. I also have IC hard pipes planned and the intake resonator delete pipe (put stock back for smog). Could I still run the stage 2 and get good gains, or is it worth the hassle to go catless (need to find where to buy one and ship to CALI) and then swap tune and cat back to stock for smog?

IF I were to add my own .02 - Evolution Racewerks is top of the game. Been running their DP with every option for coming up on 2 years and it never disappoints. Amazing build quality, performance above the rest, perfect fit on install (including support brackets), utilizes a nice big flex section so it handle handle the abuse over time. Zero disappointments and constantly getting compliments on the sound which is partly my exhaust but this DP changed it completely, in a good way.
