F55/F56 Engine Air Filter and Cabin Filter
Engine Air Filter and Cabin Filter
Hi all. I have a 2017 F55 S. I have had it since new. Not even 17k miles but 3 year maintenance plan is done. I need to change the engine air filter (B46?) and the cabin air filter. Is there a kit out there that has both of those items, along with DIY instructions? I look at OutMotoring and don't see engine air filters, only cabin. And then other places have different brands for both, and I'm spoiled for choice.
Is everyone just using MINI branded air filters for engine and cabin? Where are you getting them? Easy to change yourself? Thanks!

For the engine air filter we use the high flow dry filter. Like a K&N, but no oil to go through the sensors, but still high flow and lifetime so you can just clean it in the future.

And then the cabin filters. FYI these are not a 5min job so you'll need a friend that has done it before, or the instructions from the repair manual.

We gonna learn today!
Remove one Torx screw on the left side of the passenger's footwell.
Pull off the side panel. There are several clips but only one screw. Be careful not to pull the wire for the light.
Unclip the footwell light.
Locate and unsnap cover high near the firewall.
Tug, pull, yank, drag, and remove the two filters.
Slide in the new filters.
Reclip the light wire and reinstall the side panel.
It'll drive you a bit crazy but it's doable.
I'm changing my engine air filter. Mann makes one with and without the foam at the bottom. Which one do you recommend and what is the foam for?
Parts numbers:
With foam Mann C22018
Without Mann C22017
Thank you.

The foam is for winter. Any icing would occur on the foam, and melt away. If ice were to form on the paper, the filter would be ruined.

Did both the cabin air filters and engine filters recently.
The cabin wasn't too bad, but I was used to changing my wife's Mazda3 which is pretty much in the same spot. The worst part is that you have to bend the second filter to get it in so I hope it popped back to shape. My neck was a little sore afterwards, but the old filters did have visible discoloration on them. I replaced the engine air filter with a K&N (I know controversial). When I removed the old filter, some of the foam was coming apart, there were bugs stuck in it, and the air box was dirtier than I imagined it should be (~3 years, <20k miles). And I'm pretty sure they changed my air filter during an oil change previously. (I asked them to change the cabin air filter and engine air filter at my last "early" oil change since my car is coming out of free maintenance but no dice.) And of course, I dropped a screw so this quick change took too long. But based on the condition of both filters, I'm pretty happy that I did it.
