Which transmission do I have?
I was reading that there is an automatic transmission and a sport automatic transmission. What's the difference and how can I tell which one I have? I'm in a 2016 MCS with pretty much no options. No paddle shifters on the steering wheel, but the I can move the shifter to the left for higher RPM shifting.

Most probably you have the standard automatic transmission. The sports transmission came with cars with paddle shifters and it also have launch control. Also, Sports transmission can be coded to standard automatic transmission. There are people here who retrofitted the paddle shifters and coded the sports transmission.
So the standard automatic can be coded to a sport automatic? Is the shifting behavior any different or is it just the ability to have the launch control and paddle shifters?

There's no hardware difference between the regular automatic and the sport automatic. The differences are in programming (the latter can shift faster when in Sport mode, as it's been explained to me) and the addition of shift paddles to the sport automatic. The DCT transmission in the 2020+ models is totally different.

Hey,
I too had a question which AT my 2016 MCS has. So at the time when my car was configured in 2016 either by MINI or a customer, the regular steering wheel was picked that didn't include paddle shifters. Maybe in 2016 the JCW steering wheel was a paid option... If customer didn't choose steering wheel with paddle shifters, could it be that transmission settings would still be set to sport AT? I tested non S MINI Cooper with similar looking AT shifter but moving it to manual didn't increase RPM.
So when I put my car in Sport, it stiffens shocks/struts a bit as it is equipped with DDC and when I move the shifter to the manual position, RPM goes up a by 200 or 300.
I believe below is the transmission my vehicle is equipped with:
01 Automatic transmission Eh GA6F21AW - EIE 1 Up to 07/2017 24008685204
