Looks like a good idea. I've already fully crumpled the plastic about 8 inches behind my factory pinch-weld jack-point block. I use smallish a block of wood to reduce the deformation. It bothered me at first.
I've wondered how much harm is actually done deforming the pinch welds doing it this way. I'm thinking other than cosmetic, probably not too much, (I hope).
On the other hand, these Rennstand seem great, we are all gonna have several cars in our life and this problem isn't going away.
I've been using this system for several years,. A scrap piece of 2X4 and $20 worth of jack stands I picked up at a garage sale. No crumpled anything.

I put one end inside the stupid little square and the other on the outside. seems to hold up well, but honestly, I'm still afraid so I end up keeping the jack in place but not as the primary weight holder. Once I have a house, I'm getting a quick jack ASAP.
Just wanted to drop a little update. I went ahead and got a pair of JackPoint jackstands to try out. I really like them. They feel really sturdy and I like not having to have an extra step of jacking up the side with a plank of wood. The JackPoints are probably the nicest jackstands I've used.

I own RennStand jacks and like them a lot. They work well on low profile cars which was one of the key selling points for me. Sorry, I’m a little late to the party.
