Catless DP and Remus Race Exhaust - how loud is it?

I'm planning my mods for my 2016 F55 MCS (US Spec), for exhaust I was thinking the Miltek catless DP and Remus Race exhaust but I'm wondering if this will be unbearably loud. I like cars on the noisier side, but I'm sure even I have my limits. Any thoughts on this? Should I be considering something else? Anyone in the DFW area have this setup that wouldn't mind me dropping by to hear it in person?

For context, this is how I use my MCS:
  • Daily - drop my kid off at school, go to work, and go home. About 10 miles total
  • 1 or 2 times a year - long road trip with just me and my dog, about a 5-12 hour drive.
  • 1 time a month - hit the track or autoX, I'm a novice, but it would be nice to have something to grow into
Thanks for any opinions folks, I'm sure this has been asked before, but it's always nice to get the newest perspectives.

I don't have the catless downpipe, but I think it's not too loud. I run mine wide open all of the time. It's a bit loud on startup, but settles down pretty quickly. The sound is really nice a mellow with plenty of pops and baks on deceleration.A nice feature is that it does not revert to the base setting on restart. It stays where you want it to be. Also, you can customize the sound using the phone app so if wide open is too loud, you can tone it down a bit. It's a really nice unit and is lighter than the JCW Pro unit.

Here's a clip I posted to Facebook .

I have the Remus with the racing pipe (unresonated) with a MarioKart catless downpipe on my F55S. Cold starts are almost unbearably loud (and ugly sounding in my opinion), so I definitely recommend investing in the valve remote that Remus sells. Doubly so you're dropping off your kid at school in the morning unless if you have tolerant neighbors. Even with the valves closed, the cold start will still be decently loudish, but not nearly as much as it is open. Meaning you can hear a low rumble from inside the house if you turn it on in the driveway with a closed valve cold start.

There is a little bit of drone with valves wide open cruising at 3k rpms, but sounds almost close to stock with valves closed with no drone whatsoever. The pops and bangs in sport mode can be heard from a literal mile away on a quiet morning day (I've heard it before) if you're pushing the car upward of 4k rpms. The pops at 2-3k rpms are more like crackles and not as loud. If you are driving an automatic with sport mode on, the gear change farts (similar to what you'd hear from a VW DSG) are also very loud if shifting later in the range.

In terms of day to day driving, I don't really find it to be obtrusive unless if you're driving like you want it to be. If you would like, I can send some interior footage with the straight pipe fitted.

I have a Miltek hatless and the Remus Sport. The valve is the way to go. I was running a straight pipe for a while and it was so embarrassing I hated to drive my Mini.

My valve is set at 50% - Sound clip included on my post:

Thanks very much for the input guys. For now I just went the Remus Race Exhaust (I'm in the middle of installing it now). I'll see what that volume is like with that alone.

I did have the car running for a moment with no exhaust on, as in only the factory DP on, and that was unbearably loud. How does this compare to a catless DP with a Remus Race with fully closed valve?

With the factory downpipe, I'm pretty happy with the Remus at 100%. Granted, it is loud on startup, but settles down pretty quickly. A feature I didn't expect was that even at 100%, there is no drone at highway speeds. I tried it at 50%, but found that there was a faint drone at that setting. It's really up to you on how to configure it. I'm happy at 100%, but others may find that a bit too much.

I was very worried about the sound being too loud also. I have the MarioKart catless DP and AWE touring exhaust. To me the sound is deeper at acceleration and there is actually less drone on the highway. I was very hesitant to get the pops and flames option, but am glad I did. Car is quite civilized in green mode and sports mode is very fun when you want it to be.

I wouldn't know about green mode. I coded mine to default to sports. It's a bit loud on startup and under acceleration, but otherwise pretty civilized. It's all about fun with these cars and the exhaust really amps up the fun factor.

During MTTS 2018, I got a lot of comments on the sound. It's rich and deep, not like a lot of the cheaper systems.

With a fully closed valve it would probably be 65% quieter. The valve does make a difference and makes the tone closer to stock.

Just got the Remus Race (with the stock DP at the moment) all installed yesterday and I love it. It's great how with the valve closed its just a little louder than stock, but with it open, its pretty aggressive sounding.

This is probably the right loudness level for my taste, but I still want the power gain from a catless DP. What are my options to still get the power, but not the volume? Has anyone tried adding a front resonator to the Remus Race?

With the resonator on and a catless downpipe, it is about 20% louder than without a resonator/with a catless with valves open. Resonator would be the way to go if you want to maintain a similar volume.

Would you (or anyone) happen to know if the the front resonator from the Remus Sport would be a direct bolt on fit to the Remus Race? Or would I be better off just going to an exhaust shop and have them weld something in?

Pretty confident that the resonator is a direct fit. Adamlz, a car YouTuber, once did the same thing as you and the pipe went on without any issue. You could try contacting them to ensure fitment. (emailing michael@remususa.com is a good bet; he has helped me a ton before). Part number for the resonated section is 755014 0300: https://www.vividracing.com/remus-st...150884727.html

I don't believe that Remus sells the resonated pipe directly from their website anymore, but you could email and ask to see if they could.
