Auto Wipers vs Headlights

Just to gain a common understanding, when I am using the Auto-Wipers, they will wipe the windshield only when required. If there is a lot of rain, they will wipe often. If there is little rain, they will wipe infrequently.

As with regular wipers, when you turn the Auto-Wipers 'on', they will also turn the headlights 'on', I assume since this is the law in most places.

My problem is that once the time between wipes gets long enough, the headlights will get turned 'off' (even thought there is still an occasional, rare, wipe). My question is, is there some way to change this value? I would really want my headlights to remain 'on' even if pause between wipes gets rather long. For the most part, it might still be overcast and cloudy even when it is only very lightly raining.

Can this headlight-back-off feature be turned off, or the time interval set to something much larger than it is by default? Possibly using Bimmercode?

I never knew that my wipers were linked to my headlights. Is this only if you have your headlights on auto?
I'll definitely check it out.

Funny, never paid any attention to this feature. Always raining and dark here anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if you can code it somewhere in the depths of the coding system. Never looked for it.

I set the headlights to auto, as I drove from the dealer, and never change it.

I'm a crazy control freak. When I would turn on my lights or wipers normally, I put them to auto. Kind of defeats the purpose of it, but as I said, I'm a control freak...

The last two times I drove with my wipers on (it's been raining here which is good for this thread), I noticed it takes a bit before the headlights go on. I'm not sure if it wasn't dark enough or if it takes a little after the wipers turn on.

My wiper on Auto is very sensitive. Even if I put the sensitivity setting to the lowest, the wipers will still go to fast mode although it is just a drizzle. Anybody has the same observation?

I feel the same way about the auto wipers hcube. I'd honestly prefer if there was an intermittent setting since I don't like when wipers are too fast. I actually find myself switching it from "auto" to "on or slow" and back and forth when I'm driving in the rain. "Auto" seems good if I'm at a stop, but once I'm driving, I switch it back to "On/Slow".

yup, I’m also doing the same. I found an option in Bimmercode to change the Rain and Light sensor from Normal to Less Sensitive. Will try that to see if it makes any difference..

Please follow-up and let me know if the Bimmercode app helps with these.

The F5X headlights will turn on with the wipers after a few wipes, if the headlight switch is in the Auto position. Once the wipers stop wiping, the headlights will turn off if a few minutes have elapsed between wipes (assuming ambient light doesn't warrant the lights remaining on). If there are a few minutes between wipes, it's probably safe for the car to assume it's no longer raining. If you still want the lights on, turn the headlight switch to one of the manual settings. The car does a good job of knowing when to turn the lights on/off, but just like every other car with automatic lights, it's not perfect.

I changed the rain sensor sensitivity from Normal to Insensitive using Bimmercode. Now the Auto mode works much better.
