Buy 2019 hardtop or wait for 2020 electric version?

I am thinking about getting a new MINI. I'm on my second one, and the current version (2012 Cooper) has 115K mi on it. I'm pleased to hear about the deals that seem to be available now, but really hate the set trim packages. I haven't paid much attention to MINI improvements over the past few years, but my impression is that MINI hasn't introduced as many innovations as some competitors, particularly in the safety area. Given that I feel kind of lackluster about the current hardtop, is it worth waiting for the electric SE version to come out. Does anyone know when those might be available to purchase? thanks.

If Brexit blows up, MINI may not survive. Even not considering that, there would be better EVs on the market if that is the primary factor.

I certainly have been wondering how Brexit would affect MINI. I do some longer distance driving, so an EV with a super short range wouldn't work well for me. But design and sportiness are a consideration, and I haven't seen anything else that I loved or worked for my lifestyle. I need a hatchback that can transport a 12' kayak.

I was gung ho to buy the new electric HT, until I saw that the range will be sadly lacking the competition. They aren't serious players unless they are under selling the car at this point.

Agreed. I'd really be looking for 200+ miles.

This article talks about Brexit and Mini’s.

Personally, my next car will be an EV, but I’ll wait until the range is 300+.
