SO I've ordered a Mini JCW and it's being built. When asked about price, the salesman kept telling me that he would need to see when the car gets here. He said that at that point, there may or may not be incentives. So far I've only put down a 1 thousand dollar deposit. What's the best way to go here? Thanks in advance!
Best way to negotiate price is to do it before ordering!
I'd press him/her now about price without incentives so you're not totally at their say so.
If it's ordered, then the options are all known.
If they won't even do that then consider trying to get your deposit back and try elsewhere if possible.

I'd be shocked if they negotiate at all. If you're buying off the lot, you can probably talk them down a bit, but when they're ordering a car to your exact specifications, good luck.
I've gotten rubber floor mats in the past, so the tip to ask for a few extras can work.
When we ordered, there was a $1500 rebate for using BMW financing, though I think that deal has expired. We also got a code through USAA for $500 off, which our motoring advisor brought up. That was an unexpected (and easy) bit of savings.

Incentives and rebates are good only on the day of delivery, unless stated otherwise (in writing) by the dealer (yes he has that flexibility). Knowing this going in, you can shoot for the best deal w/o incentives and when the car is delivered, whatever is available incentive/rebate-wise is yours also (and regardless of what the dealer says it's not coming out of his pocket). Many times incentives will remain in effect for months. There are also rebates if you are a USAA member $500 on an "S", maybe more on a JCW. Just do your home work.
It's too late now, but I would never order a car without knowing the price I will pay upon delivery, minus rebate and incentives that may not yet be in effect..
I ordered in June and was fine with the listed price (I don't care to haggle, give me a price, either I like it or I don't). I signed the rate sheet on ordering and expected to pay that much at pickup. hen we showed up to sign the loan papers they knocked $1000 off the price without me asking. I had no complaints. :D

I did push them to let me sign my loan deal in July since they were offering 1.9% and after some back and forth they let us come in on the last full week of July to sign the papers even with the car being somewhere between LA and the dealership. Turns out the car was ready 4 days later so I picked up in July and wouldn't have had to worry.

Ask for the deposit back. Tell them life got in the way and you need to cancel. Then they will start negotiating or tell you to hit the street. If you ordered a fairly standard configuration with nothing odd they will just sell it to the next JCW seeker.
Just for info, my nearest dealer when I was last looking to buy new offered $500 off on ordered car. My next nearest dealer 3-4 hours away offered $2000 off any ordered car. Location location, supply and demand. The local dealer didn't give a crap that I wasn't buying. In the end both dealers lost and I saved $13,000 buying barely used car.

That's BS I'd go get your deposit back. It's like saying we'll decide how much we can get from you after you're tired of waiting and it's here and you don't want to walk away from the deal. You need a price in writing before even ordering. Also I bet the fine print says you don't get your deposit back after the car is built so you will get stuck.
Plus dealers have been so hard up to sell cars there seems to be a good bit of negotiation avail by shopping around.

There is no way you deposit without agreeing on a price. Total game being played and I have a feeling you'll be on the losing end. I would start with I want my deposit back and then negotiate see if you can get a good price
Something else that is negotiable is a percentage of parts. Sounds crazy buying a new car and wanting parts at a discount but I know someone who was able to get 20% off parts for as long as they own the their MINI... Which also includes shirts, caps, floor mats, luggage racks,etc etc. not just hard parts for the car...
As everyone else has said,seems kind of shady. Should've signed a build sheet with purchase price before order was put in. Just did 3rd custom order and did that with each one. Was able to get 2500 of this order plus what ever is available once it arrives.
The car that sits on the lot for 6 months actually costs the dealer a whole lot more than one that has been special ordered!
That new car CAN be heavily negotiated, plus you use the dealers holdback as a further discount.

You can pay invoice for that car. There is “dealer holdback” present that BMW pays the dealer after the car is sold. That’s where they can make money while still giving you a good deal. Heck, they can sell below invoice and still come out ahead.
There is no reason you Have to pay full price just because it’s a special order. If you don’t take delivery, they have to find a buyer in a tough sales market. You have all the power in this negotiation. It’s your money, after all!
how and where do you find out what is available when it arrives?
Miniusa.com (though not showing any currently) and dealer will have any current offers. But after experience you've had with yours would be weary of them. I would email others even if not close to have some more knowledge and leverage. Good luck!
Did you already make your order of your MINI vehicle? Also, do you currently have a MINI? I know that they're doing a loyalty promotion if you take delivery of an ordered car before July 1st. It's $1,000 Off on an ordered small engine Cooper or $2000 Off on S models or JCW models.
