Time To Clean My Valves?

I came across this picture the other day, and now that I have 13,000 miles on my F56 it got me wondering.....how are my valves doing? This picture is from my R56 with 20,000 miles. Has anybody had a look at their valves? Has BMW learned their lession?

I haven't heard of anyone having to blast their 3rd Gen car yet.

Soaking them in SeaFoam and scraping and scrubbing by hand. I got pretty good at it because it was required every 15,000 miles.

I would have hoped BMW figured this out by now.
OK.....calm down, and re-read my original post carefully.

Wow, that's crazy! So this was a known thing on the gen 2 cars? Did you have modifications? And it couldn't be fixed with just an additive- you had to remove the head and remove the valves? Nuts.

It's a known problem on the N14 engines. N18 was an improvement, and hopefully the 3rd Gen is the charm. You only have to remove the intake manifold to do the walnut blasting. Mini makes a tool that's a combination of a shopvac and a media blaster to keep things relatively tidy. Lots of info on this in the 2nd Gen forum.

It seems like all direct injection engines will need to have the carbon cleaned off the valves at some point. At 13,000 miles you are far away from that I'd bet. It is to early to tell what the magic number will be, the engine is to new to know that yet.

I'd suggest running a bottle of Chevron Techron through every oil change. It won't clean the valves, but will help keep the injectors & piston tops clean.

Not every DI engine. Toyota uses a second set of injectors in the intake port in most of their DI engines. Over 10 years of no issues in the 2GR-FSE. VW has followed with their 2.0T.

I know Toyota does this & it's a good idea. I have a 2.0T in my GTI & it does not have the extra injectors.

Only the 2015 and newer GTIs have the additional injector set. My 2007 did not.

I think this is true of the MK7 sold in Europe, but from what I gather the ones sold here do not. I think I need to some searching about this.

You are right. No VW model sold in the U.S. has DI and PI together. It was promised for MK7, but they didn't implement it here.

Have the dealer do a carbon deposit test. The DME can check for it for you.

You have a second set of injectors as well. F56 has hpfp and lpfp and two fuel rails (di and lp)
