Need advice on build order

Hello folks,

I am long time lurker at this forum and I am writing my first post to get some advice from Mini enthusiasts. My wife just got her master degree and her car has recently reached 150K miles (still running like new though), so it is great time for me to buy her brand new Mini for her graduation present. This will be our first Mini to our family. How exciting!

After work yesterday I went to this local Mini dealer and placed the order. The guy at the dealer said delivery will take about 6-8 weeks and they only can offer $500 discount off MSRP?? Hopefully some incentives will be offered by the time my car arrives in two month. (I wonder how much discount was offered to members here).

Build order spec. (nothing too special)

Mini Hardtop 2DR Base model
deep blue
white roof
Sunroof delete
Union jack roof decal
Black jack side mirror cap
white stripe on bonnet
Automatic tranny
LED headlamps, fog light, white turn signal
Navigation XL, HUD, comfort entry, rear view camera

My question is
Is there anything I should know or should do before I take the delivery?

Thanks folks and I can't wait to be part of great Mini community here.

Ben

I'd work on the negotiation a bit more. My dealer started off with "oh we never negotiate, it's sticker price) and I worked $1900 off on a custom cooper.

Definitely negotiate a bit. Sales men are sometimes hard to deal with, but usually if the negotiate is worth it for them they will go down a bit. (My father is one).

Unless there are few dealers in your area, you should be able to negotiate quite a bit further, unless you are looking at a 2016 model. You're nearing the end of the model year and dealers will likely be willing to get significantly lower if pushed. Check TrueCar.com, Edmunds, or other sites for how much people are paying in your area.

Consider the HK sound system upgrade unless she's like my wife and never listens to anything in the car even on trips. The base sound system is pretty basic. If you want to connect a phone or ipod consider Mini Connected, as long as you're getting the NAV and the 8" screen that is. I like the Brit Flag roof decal, that'll look great with the blue.

I live in SO Cal and there are couple Mini dealers in our area. I will definitely negotiate harder once car arrives at the dealer. You got a good point there. My build order is 2015 and I think I have a vantage point to grab more discount.

Bignewt, is Union jack Brit flag? I added union jack roof decal for my build. That is a MUST and deal breaker for my wife. Wife happy, family happy.

I missed that you already ordered you car. You're probably screwed out of any further negotiating if you already signed the order form and paid your deposit. You're obligated to buy the car at the price you agreed to or you forfeit your deposit and possibly more.

Richard,
AFAIK build order customer can always walk away from the deal and get their deposit back even after they signed order form. That is what I was told by the Mini dealer yesterday. I live in state of California and that is what state law says according to the guy. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Inputs always appreciated.

Maybe, I'm not familiar with Cali law and they really do specialize in all kinds of wacky rules so it's possible. Though I'd wonder what the purpose of paying a cash deposit is if you could just order a car and then walk away from it. There wouldn't be anything stopping a dealership from being stuck with some really odd configuration that would sit for months unsold. I'd be interested to see how flexible they are.

Definitely start with a truecar.com quote as a starting point.

Yep, the UnionJack is the British flag, and yours should be red, white, and blue. It looks great on red and blue cars. There's a Unionjack that's in shades of grey but that would look stupid with a blue car body. You can get matching mirror caps later on if you want more of that look. You install those yourself. I did Unionjack side scuttles on my car recently.

I would switch out the Black Jack mirror caps for red/white/blue if that's what you have on your roof. That's something they do at delivery, not factory so no issue.

BigNewt & Annette

My build has union jack roof (must-have for wife) and black jack side mirror caps. The reason I chose black jack side mirror since I thought black jack side mirror would go well with union jack roof. Big mistake. This will be my wife's car. not mine. After I hear suggestions from you all Mini gru, I think I should match the roof color with side mirror cap. Thanks for the input.

You never forfeit your deposit in CA, You may also refuse delivery. You are not obligated to buy.
Even after you have ordered it they may be able to make corrections to the order, that depends on the order stage.

From which dealer/location did you order?

There is not 1900 worth if mark up in that build just an FYI. There us more than 500 though. I would also get the storage pkg..flat load floor, extra 12 volt charger, storage net and hooks is really handy and a bargain at 250.09
