F55/F56 No Lock/Unlock Chirp, just lights?
No Lock/Unlock Chirp, just lights?
I'm accustomed to some kind of confirmation honk/chirp sound when I lock or unlock other cars. Can something like this be set on the F56's? I can't find it in Settings or in the manual, but I suspect there may be a secret dealer method of enabling the chirp - will ask them Monday - but would like to have the correct answer in advance. Thanks.
So am I to understand that when walking away from the MINI and pressing the lock function on the fob, I have to turn and see if the lights blink to know the car is locked? (pretty much every car on the planet has an audible beep of the horn or chirp to alert that car is locked...not MINI?)

No Beep!
YES
Why in G 's name do you need a neighbor
disturbing beep to assure you you've locked your car.

We will definitely disagree on this topic. Cars that honk on lock are disrespectful and disruptive to everyone around. The lock solenoids are loud enough to be heard upon locking anyway; why be so loud with a horn honk? The cars that honk are especially annoying in quiet neighborhoods late at night.

That being said, as an older and more forgetful type, many times wife and I are walking into a store and I ask, if I locked the car (both of us having blanks stares and a shoulder shrug). Pressing the lock button on the fob (even with car hidden by others) returns a nice little beep putting my mind at ease. I also find it convenient to not have to face to car to get a visual lock signal when walking to a store.
After all it is a convience item otherwise we could return to the days of locking the car by key. Totally quiet to everyone around too.

Honestly I find disrespectful, the boom box sub-woofer stereos played for my listening enjoyment in traffic and rattling aftermarket exhaust pipes showing everyone nearby how "peppy, fast and furious" their cars are, far more annoying than a short beep of the horn verifying a locked car.
We can agree to disagree.

You join the above mentality with your beeping horn.
Your sub woofer is just a different pitch.
Your forgetfulness and longevity is not an excuse to disturb
others.

Nice job Mrdi - I agree with your analysis. Human nature to think our personal behavior is somehow not the same as when others exhibit similar annoying traits.

Cell phone set to vibrate?
I've driven a car with a honking lock for 10 years. Press once on the fob to lock, press twice for honk. I think I've only pressed twice once or twice in 10 years. There's no need for it.
What would be nice is some sort of force-feedback in the fob, similar to an Xbox controller, letting you know the car is locked.
Hang on, I'm off to the patent office

But remember that the honk is also a convenient way to find your car in a crowded parking area. So I agree that not having a beep/honk is an inconvenience with these cars (unless you don't pay for the expensive security alarm option). I'm fine with only hearing the locking solenoid when locking the car, but I'm not fine with not having a way to easily locate my car in a crowded lot.
If you want a honk/chirp, get the optional alarm system.
Oh, you thought it should have been a standard feature? BMW/MINI doesn't work that way. They are well known for withholding features and having options drive up the price.

I agree that no beep is a good thing. I with I could turn it off on my son's Golf. Although, the quiet chirp on my wife's Audi is nice. The solenoid for the gas cap is so loud you should be able to hear that half a parking lot away.
I remember driving a Buick where one press would lock the car, a second press would honk the horn.
Someday someone will figure out how to trigger the vestigial fog lamps so you can find your car in a group of MINIs. That has to be the reason the bulb is there?

I'm glad that there isn't a loud horn going off every time the car's locked. I have the comfort access system, so usually I'm locking the car from the door handle when I get out. I live in an apartment building with parking in the center, so any sounds bounce between the buildings and amplify greatly. I'm sure my neighbors don't like when I pull my Ducati out for a ride, but I always make sure to start it on the way down the hill, and cut the engine as I coast into the lot to try not to disturb them if it's at odd hours. The last thing I want when I'm on night shift and sleeping during the day is for every vehicle being locked to honk/beep and wake me up. It's really just unnecessary. And for the record, I'm 27, so not part of the old-fogey group. The locks are plenty loud enough as it is for confirmation if I hit the fob as I walk away.
