I get the thrill of modifying cars, I just think that, in the long run, why is it fair that the rest of us will have to pay for the damage, i.e. increased warranty costs caused by this behavior .

What's your answer to this situation?

You clearly missed that some cars are having the problem without the piggyback installed. I am amused at your ethical supposition of "beat the hell out of it", as if WOT it is somehow outside the OEM's consideration during their extensive durability testing while simultaneously assuming everyone is bent on committing fraud.

Were you trying to? That would be a violation of Site Guidelines. If you have a soap box you'd like to chant from, it would seem better received in its own thread where you're free to flesh out your thesis, versus corrupting this thread with assumptions.

I don't have any thesis. I am on my third MINI and I love the cars. But, I really dislike the the business of selling ECU changes that increase horsepower and are , theoretically, desighned to hide the change. Seems like like fraud to me and leaves the customer holding the bag. Pretty low end way to do business.

I don't disagree with your message, however I do agree you should start your own thread on the topic. I'd be happy to discuss all the nuances.

I am like many of the other car owners on this forum I have never bought a car that was exactly what I wanted the kid in me says make it yours whether that be louder stereo, exterior upgrades , or performance parts. There was a time any modification caused the dealer to deny warranties whether it caused the issue or not. We can all debate this to no end as there are people on both sides of the fence when it comes to modifications.
I am sorry if I have been ignoring your post/thread with it being your thread and all, I was caught up in OT subject. I'm glad it was something simple!

I agree because the OP is almost being ignored.

When she started the car to drive home the cel was gone we decided to take it to the dealer to find out what was wrong they found a low voltage dsc code and a few other codes but did not have a resolution so they are keeping it until Monday in order to get an engineer to look into the issue so we have an f55 loaner for the weekend. 😢 I must say I am very impressed with how the dealer is handling everything they have been absolutely amazing looking forward to the bugs being worked out for the MOTD trip in a few weeks 😀
God-awful THUNK from the transmission
Yesterday 23rd (April 2015), I was in my 2014 Mini Cooper S, in the parking lot of our church, waiting for my wife, with the engine running - when a God-awful THUNK from the transmission caused the whole car to shudder, the seat hit me in the back like I’d been rear ended.

A message said ‘Engine will not start, inform Mini service.’ Or something like that. I was too shaken/surprised to really get the message.
The car went dead and I could not start it.

After a couple of minutes of trying, the car did start
.
I was able to drive home - with the car performing as usual.

This was the only time the car has scared me. I thought I should post this - in case someone else has had the same scary experience.

I’ll go by the dealer today and give him a copy of this problem.

That was probably the engine not the tranny, sounds like you had the car in Park when it thunked, so the tranny was inactive. I think you have a potentially serious problem, I'd not be too comfortable driving that car from now on, sorry.

Seconded... If you're experiencing a THUNK, that sounds like a entirely separate issue than what's been discussed. I would drive (or possibly tow, using Roadside Assistance) to MINI and have that looked at right away.

Aside from the personal attacks in this thread, it IS the place to go for "DriveTrain Malfunction" and we received our second one on Saturday morning when we were on the way to the Dragon (we live nearby). Got the loaner and just went home, never made MOTD.

A few details:
1) our car is BONE STOCK, 2015 Hardtop 4dr
2) My wife drives it and NEVER aggressively
3) "DriveTrain error Consult Service Center" would come on, but full diagnostics would pass
4) This is the second time this has happened, we are escalating to Senior Mini Tech.

We will report back to this group with what they find.

With this DriveTrain issue repeating and the numerous GasCap issues (or even LOW GAS turning on CEL), she's pissed. She is so angry at this car, she's ready to give it back and get something different.

So, we took the car to MINI OF KNOXVILLE, got a loaner (a terrible Clubman-S) and went back home, deciding NOT to go the dragon.

That's terrible hate you missed the Dragon, sure that won't make you feel better. It's weird when my transmission went out never a code or anything just a load pop and it would go in neutral. After 40 something days in the shop when I got it back then I got the drivetrain malfunction error and it had burnt up the wiring harness. So who knows it could be several different things I've noticed.
