F55/F56 No Rev Matching from 3rd to 2nd?
No Rev Matching from 3rd to 2nd?
Hello, 2015 MCS MT here. I can't find much documentation on the rev matching feature, as if it's a hidden thing... odd. Anyway, I've found that rev matching does not activate from 3rd to 2nd on mine. Is that the case for everyone?
This is by design....you actually could up until fall 2014 builds then they changed the software. All MINIs manufactured after that will not rev match from 3rd to 2nd.
Supposedly, MINI will have a software update in the spring to bring this back.

As a data point, I just picked up a Nedcar-built Justa manual. It was ordered in November 2014, built in December, received at the dealer in early Feb and picked up last week. I don't know what, if any, software updates were applied at the VDC or dealership.
Mine rev-matches from 3rd to 2nd. The only non-matched downshift is into 1st.

The people at my dealership know nothing about this. I asked them to contact Mini about it.
I don't think they did because all I was told is that it is "not a feature".
Great customer service! Can't even ask for me.

I was wondering about this myself. I picked up my S last Thursday and will be coming in for my 2nd visit tomorrow, so I'll see if they can update the software. I don't mind heel/toeing it, but it's nice having the crisp downshift to 3rd coming off the freeway, and I wouldn't mind having 2nd for the canyons.
thanks, I will contact them today.
Geeze fellas, doesn't anyone else experience what I do? I turn off the rev-matching at startup (along with all DSC) just because I autocross where this lot is not helpful.
But on the street, if I am downshifting to an off-ramp or otherwise reducing speed sharply, I find that the auto rev-match produces a slight over-rev which causes the drive train to argue slightly with the brakes on clutch release.
If I am standing the car on its nose and dropping from 5th to 3rd or 4th to 2nd it's actually a bit annoying.
I reckon that's a boundary case, but anyway.
Cheers,
Charlie

Got the update, BTW. Now I understand the rev matching. I'm so used to the usual method of downshifting without using the engine (disengage clutch, shift down, brake until revs are matched, engage clutch) so it actually took me a bit to notice the engine rev up to match the lower gear. It's actually a pretty nice feature.
Is there a way to check the ISTA/P version without special equipment?
Mini of Pittsburgh installed the update on mine which was one of the first 2015 cars built (late June/early July 2014).
The other rev matching thread below refers to a software update Ver. "F056 15 03 503". This thread calls for "ISTA/P 3.55.1".
I'm in the midst of this issue now with my dealer and would like to be prepared with the correct update info. Which of the above versions is most applicable to rev matching? Which is likely to make more sense to the dealer? What's the difference between the two?
