F55/F56 Surprising new behaviour
Surprising new behaviour
After a quick check-in at work I drove 150 feet, stopped on an incline. My F56 automatic 3-cylinder was in mid-mode and it entered an auto-stop. I opened my door, in drive but foot still on the brake, closed the door and got a horn beeping, lights flashing warning that my car was in danger of rolling away.
I had to press the start button to restart the car. I drove around the lot again and noticed when I stopped and opened the door with the auto-stop engaged the display says goodbye or something.
I tried it a third time, and let my foot off the brake momentarily to disengage the auto-stop, then I was able to open the door.
Interesting!
Does the MINI One still have a key?

My BMW X1 behaves similarly. My wife and I were at a dealer after hours, looking at inventory. I'd stop, get out, and look at cars. If auto-stop kicked in, then when I left - with the key - I'd come back to a fully shut down X1. Happened every time, until I disabled start-stop. I believe it's the opening of the door that causes it.
It could be a combination of being in gear and auto-stop kicking in, but in my case I was always in Park.

But one can permanently disable the autostart right? By permanently I mean turn it off unless you decide to turn it on again. That feature is obnoxious and I don't remember anyone on this forum that likes it. I would doubt that it saves much gas if any. I you want to save gas buy a hybrid!
In my case, yes I can disable auto start-stop and the on-off state is changed until I change it back. I don't mind it, and would use it in my F56 when the time comes that I purchase one. I'm pretty sure F56 start-stop behavior is the same as my X1.
Same thing happens if you leave the car while in neutral with a manual.
I actually don't mind the stop-start system.
