F55/F56 Thunk in wheel well
Thunk in wheel well
How to describe? My MCS has 9k miles and recently when hitting bumps, e.g. leaving a parking lot or hitting a speed bump, I've noticed the front right suspension making a bit of an abrupt knock. Anyone want to take a stab at it? I'm dropping it off for its 10,000 mile service and will bring it up with the SA . . .
Did this get resolved? What was the finding if so? I'm noticing a loud Thunk on big speed bumps at low speed.

I had the same problem as have several other members. On mine they replaced the control arms and bushings.

I have been having the same problem. During my 10,000mile service, they changed the front control arm bushings but that did not solve the problem. They ordered the struts from Germany and I am waiting for another service visit. I am also going to ask them to look into the same clunk noise coming from the rear suspension. I have been having this noise since almost day one and they had thought that the noise was coming from the storage package thing. No, I removed it the other day and still had the noise.
The left B-pillar cover and window rubber seal make some squeeky noise as well, and this morning, I had some wild noise from the power steering (see my thread). Man, this thing is noisy!!

I had a similar noise coming from the front passenger side wheel. The dealer replaced both control arms and transferred the original bushings. I noticed the car kept making the noise on the way home from the dealer. I waited a week and then took it back in. It turned out to be a pinch bolt that somehow stretched and had play in it.
Anyone care to post up an image of the relevant part of the work order from MINI showing the fix. Sometimes my relationship with service personnel becomes a PITA without supporting evidence. If I tell them to go over a deep speed bump they are going to find a pebble to drive over. I'll try to get the shop foreman to go for a test first.

My noise and I am at 1500 miles or so happens on very small pavement bumps imagine a rough surface, constant little rattling noise coming form left from suspension area. Need to get it in. I can't feel it but it's there, closer to one of those darn interior rattles but almost certain from left front suspension area.
Front suspension noise
Anyway the dealer is going to fix my car ( under warranty of course).
Clunk
One thing that really bothers me about MINIs is the total lack of dependability.
I have taken really good care of my current MINI. But the front end suspension clunking problem of these cars is just another in a long list of real problems with these cars. What the Hell with BMW?
I really enjoy driving my car, but why keep buying cars that fall to pieces as soon as the warranty expires. I think BMW does not build their cars to last very long.
i.e. thin rotors, crappy front suspension bushings, horrible power steering pumps in the first gen cars, timing chains in the gen2s. It goes on and on.WTF
