Red Engine Cover

Does any one know if I could spray paint the plastic engine cover like the one that comes with the new Arma intake I saw on another thread, or is the heat in the engine bay going to possibly mess something up with the spray paint, is there anything else I could possibly do, I really like the way it looks.

Isn't there a special paint that is heat resistant?

There are a lot High Temp Auto paint out there. VHT and other Engine paint should work.

The cover doesn't come with the Arma intake

The cover in that picture is painted in some kind of heat resistant paint - see the link below for the R56 version, they don't have their F56 one listed yet.

If you want something more funky you could get it hydro dipped. Those pieces don't get all that hot.

What do you gain from the engine cover? Seems like the engine would hold in its heat being covered by dense foam. I removed mine.

I think I read it has some noise absorption. But other than that.. just keeping things look nice.

I wonder how well plasti-dip would hold up

I painted my sister's engine cover with Plasti dip 2 years ago. Its a VW Golf Diesel and it gets pretty hot when its doing its DPF Regen. Plasti dip looks like day 1 and you can peel it off if you don't like it.

I'm not a paint expert, but I've heard that you need a primer that works on plastic before you can paint it. I like that plasti-dip idea. Removable is good.
