Not aware of any dealers currently stocking the B48 tuner. You'd order from our website.

I had something scary happen yesterday that I hope is not related to my Burger Stage 1 Beta tuner (B48). I had just finished business at my bank. Started the car and as always, put it in Sport mode. Turned onto the main road and gave it maybe half throttle. Instead of the usual and abrupt "kick" (which I assume is fuel added), I got an alarming JOLT. Then I got a drivetrain error and my car went into limp mode. It had died. I rolled off on the shoulder and tried to start the car. Nothing. The starter was engaging but the engine was not starting. A message said to call roadside service, or something like that. Now I'm in panic mode. Waited a few seconds and tried to start it again. Bingo! Started up and everything was back to normal. Nothing abnormal since.

Anyone else with a Stage 1 Beta tuner experience this? I have to believe that what I experienced is tune related, but not sure if it's related to the Stage 1 tuner.

I have not had this happen to me personally but for what it is worth I have heard of it happening to others who do not have the tune.

It definitely is interesting that this issue has happened with both those with a aftermarket tuner and those with the factory tune. One thing I noticed, even before I installed the Burger Stage 1 Beta tuner, is that in Mid mode there is no noticeable throttle surge. But in the Sport mode, there is often a noticeable throttle surge, but not all the time. When it does happen (except for what happened to me yesterday), the kick make it feel like you've got big blower boost. In other words, it puts a huge smile on your face. I'd love to know the exact source/reason for the throttle surge in Power mode (with the factory tune) that I and others have personally experienced. It would likely help explain what happened yesterday.

Installed the Stage 1 Beta many months ago love it, wife borrowed the MINI last week and filled it with 87 Octane, getting an almost immediate CEL driving to the airport. Took it to the dealer and they indicated the Berger was to blame after removing it and resetting the CEL.

Still kinda thinking the gas caused the issue? Any way to reset the CEL again (without going to the dealer) if I wanted to test the theory?

I would recommend getting the DashCommand app its inexpensive and full of info! There are a couple threads that have more info.

I havent looked to see if the F56 is compatable with Dashcommand, so you may want to double check before purchasing. That being said, I have used the app for several different types of cars, so I'm sure it should work.

The Torque app should work as well. It only needs OBDII, car manufacturer doesn't matter.

The gas almost certainly did it. But let me ask you this: did your dealer yell at you for using the Berger on the engine? Heck they even saw it and took it off the car for you lol.

Well, it would appear from the post that his wife had filled it with 87. I would think it safe to assume that filling it with 87 was by mistake.

Nope, they took it off and let it in the car. Honestly I can't say enough good things about my dealer. They've got my business as long as I stay in the MINI family.

Use a bav-tech tool to read/clear fault codes: http://www.burgertuning.com/scanner.html

I'm surprised you even went to the dealer with the tuner installed. I assume you were certain that they wouldn't have an issue with it. I can't risk that with my dealer. I was told that adding a tuner would cost me my warranty, unless I wanted to opt for the Mini tune package. Which for the price was a definite NO! No big deal taking 10 minutes to remove/reinstall the Burger tuner when visiting my dealer.

When I do remove the tuner, I absolutely cannot wait to return home and re-install it. No way would I want to go back to the factory power/torque. Besides, it makes me smile a heck of lot more when I driving.

CEL after install

I just installed the Stage 1 on my 2014 Mini Cooper B38 today. I drove the unit for about an hour. It makes a difference but not a huge difference like others have said. I parked the car for about an hour. When I started again I have a CEL. I removed the device drove for a while, stopped and started several times, the code did not clear. The code is p12a4 could not find any reference to that code. I emailed burgertuning about the issue, I will let you guys no.

So what is the consensus on the Burger on the S? Limp mode and cel warnings doesn't sound good to me. Extra ponies otoh sounds like nirvana.

Dealer had to keep mini over night. 4 codes that they had no seen before. I removed the device but the CEL did not clear. Talked to Jon at BMS he said try to hook up just to TMAP and not both TMAP and MAP. I am hesitant to do this but I will give it a shot. I own a B38 and the improvement is there, but not night and day. The B38 has such a small power band that I don't know if the extra boost really helps that much.

hope to see some of you at MiniPalooza this weekend.

Most issues I have seen recently were from improper instalation on the S. Its been on mine a long time. Adjusted it to +5 boost 3 months ago and it runs great. I can crush a stick f56 JCW, damn near beat a 2015 Mustang GT from 40-120, he had me by a half a length. Going to try the Manic stage 2 November to see how it compares.

agreed. the big boost in power for not a ton of money sounds enticing, but i'm still surprised how many people are taking the gamble on this tuner that is still in Beta (correct?) and with many people reporting issues.

I've had my burger on my 2014 S since march and I absolutely love it. I only had one CEL, emailed Terry @ BMS and he helped me fix it within minutes. It is by far the best thing I've done to my car to date... pulls hard and is so much fun to drive. Lots more upgrades to come.

Jamesdean... keep us all posted as to how you like the manic2 if you go that route.

So I've read this entire thread and I honestly don't know whether to get the Burger tune or not.

I'm fairly happy with my 2015 F55 S. I use it every day as a commute vehicle. I certainly don't take it to track days (yet), yet more power does sound appealing - especially for a few hundred bucks.

What I'm asking is -

a) Is it worth it for every day commuting?
b) How much of a difference does it really make? (I'm not talking numbers here - just the 'feel' of it) Give me examples I can relate to.
I mean is it the same difference between green mode and sport, or is it less than that?
c) A few people mentioned glitches running the tune on a 2015. Should I wait until something more reliable comes along?

Thanks!

They fixed the b46 issues a long time ago. Mines turned up from the standard +3 boost to +5. Makes a stock S feel like the old n16 non Turbo Cooper in comparison. For me its absolutely worth doing. I find the stock S slow and boring after to being used to my version. I am sitting around 260bhp 290-300wtq
