SIL Reset

2015 MCS

How do you reset the Service Interval Light (SIL) on a 2015 MCS (or a 2014 procedure should work also). I have looked and found reset process for 06 and older but nothing for the newer cars

The 2015 has the B46 engine, is the oil filter part number available? ECS Tuning and Minimania dont list the 2015 model

Well IAW the 2014 Owners Book.. here is some information..
(from page 34)
Information on the required maintenance is
stored in the remote controls. Service data in
the remote control, refer to page 186
(from page 186)
Service data in the remote control
Information on the required maintenance is
continuously stored in the remote control. Your
service center will read out this data and suggest
the right array of service procedures for
your vehicle.
Therefore, hand your service specialist the remote
control that you used most recently.

Something I learned a few years ago... use both (all) your keys, I rotate my keys weekly so they all get used and exercised.

Other options like Day Time Running Lights are also stored in the Key Fob

So... I would say if you try the SIL reset procedures (not indicated in the 2014 Manual) but if you use the method from earlier models, KEY FOB in, using the BC button on the stalk cycle to the SI you are wanting then resetting it... and it has to be done on both KEY FOBS.

Motor on!

I don't think I've seen anyone post up step-by-step instructions on resetting the SIL for the new F56 platform. You could try one of the two methods available for the R56 - not sure whether they would have carried over or not.

There is a good chance it could work similar to an F model BMW, if that would be easier to find.

Thanks

What I am looking for is a step by step to perform when I do an oil change. I am not looking to debate if I should perform the oil change.

Maybe a vendor that sells Oil/Filters, drain plugs, aluminum Oil Filter housings ect will have an interest in providing this info. If I can't reset the SIL I won't be doing oil changes and wont be buying the stuff to perform the oil change.

fwiw, if you are still covered by the included maintenance plan, you should not reset the SIL unless you are willing to forego the MINI supplied oil changes. That could be why no one seems to have figured out how to reset it on their own as no one has gotten out of that maintenance period yet.

I agree Free Oil Changes is probably why no one has figured out how to reset the SIL for a oil change. The reason I am looking for the reset is I am 300 mi round trip from the dealer. So free has a cost in this case.

I got an email today from a service tech at the dealer I bought the MCS from. He indicated the SIL can be reset by the customer and pointed me towards where to find the procedure. The DIY to reset appears to be simple but I am still working on how to do it. It looks like the reset for a 3rd generation will be similar to a reset for a 2nd generation Mini. He also warned me to keep receipts for oil and filter. I will also take some pictures.

I don't know if this will help but on page 76 of the 2014 manual (here-
http://www.miniusa.com/content/dam/m...rd_Monitor.pdf)

This is what it says for setting the dates -

Entering appointment dates
Enter the dates for the required inspections.

Ensure that the vehicle date and time are set
correctly.
1. "Vehicle Info"
2. "Vehicle status"
3. "Service required"
4. "§ Vehicle inspection"
5. "Date:"
6. Adjust the settings.
7. Confirm.
The entered date is stored.

Hope it works out. If so, be sure to post up the procedure as I'm sure there will be lots of people looking for this info eventually.

And kudos to your dealer for helping out!

Went to You Tube and looked at several videos for a Gen 2 Mini on how to reset oil service interval. None of them were for the Gen 3. They were simular to a Gen 3 so I tried the You Tube methods. Didn't work

This is what I got to Work on a 2015 Cooper S Hardtop MANUAL Trans to reset Oil Service Interval. This looks like a lot of steps but it only took me 5 min to do this the first time and I didn"t have a reference. The You Tube and other instructions had you using the BC button on the end of the Turn signal stalk and the "Trip 0.0". The BC button is not used on the 2015 MCS.

How to Reset Oil Change Interval 2015 Cooper S Hardtop MANUAL Trans
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Get in car with remote
2. Close door
3. Push Start/Stop sw down(clutch out) Could not get this to work with car running
4. Push" Trip 0.0" button (trip mileage reset) in speedo and hold down

5. "oil can" appears
"10,000 mi 7/2015"
"Reset Possible"

6. Momentary lift finger off of Trip 0.0 button

7. Push and Hold Trip 0.0 button
"Reset ?" appears

8. Momentary lift finger off Trip 0.0 button

9. Push down and hold Trip 0.0 button
" Reset in Progress" appears

10. Push down on Trip 0.0 and hold
"oil can " appears
"10,000 mi 10/2015"
"Reset Impossible"

I was able to reset the Oil Service Interval. Only the date changed because the mileage to change was already maximum interval
_____________________________________

Reset is impossible in last step because there is nothing that can be updated miles are 10,000 and date is now. Mileage and dates will vary on your car of course.

The engine has to be off and the dash has to be active. I did this on a Manual Trans by leaving clutch out and pushing down on Start/Stop. This should work on a Auto Transmission also but I couldn't check it

_________________________________________

To move to other Service intervals use the instructions above until the "oil can " appears then lift your finger and push Trip 0.0 for other intervals
