F55/F56 Can you add a CD player?
Can you add a CD player?
Is it possible to add a CD player on a Justa? Our car came without it and no upgraded wiring. Just wondering if this is possible before I take it to a shop..
Thanks..
Thanks..
Which car do you have, and which stereo?
I don't have a direct answer for you.
Here's one thread about this:

I know there's another thread, and there's one discussing how every factory option costs about three times as much to install at the dealer.
Also there are a few people, like GregoryK, who have been looking at the stereo system and should have more information for you.
Can I interest you in the idea of ripping your CDs to lossless files?
Do you have an Apple or a PC? Do you have a DVD drive?

Suppose to have in dash DVD / CD changer, but it looks like its an option at production. I have not heard of a retrofit ? Possible down the road.

Which goes into above glove box location , like the R56.

Thanks

For car audio, you can safely use an average variable bitrate of 160KB/sec. This will allow you to put an enormous amount of material on a 32GB flash drive. For a back-of-the-envelope estimate... Figure 27GB available after overhead. 27,000,000KB/160KB/sec = 168,000 seconds = 46 hours of music, without ever touching a disk.
Almost like wanting to put a 8 Track Player in your car......I found it odd when I first saw the F56 at the dealer in April. I asked the salesperson if the car came with a CD player like my 2013 was standard. He said he it doesn't come anymore as a standard feature. He was surprised too as I was the second customer who asked him the same question. Hey, if it can save me money, I a game. What seems new or current technology to us, is old technology to engineers, designers and manufacturers. They are just telling us something. I loaded my CDs onto a memory stick & iPhone as I am waiting 4+ months now for EPA Certification. It gives me something to do in the mean time. Just my two Canadian cents.
My brother worked in the Auto industry in Detroit and around 8 years ago he told me that someday CD players would not be put in cars. So true: 8 Track players, Cassette players and now CD players. I believe Sony does not even make their Walkman CD Player anymore. Down the road MP3 Players will be replaced, Apple has stopped making the IPod Classic which was the first major MP3 Player. I guess this is call Technology in the making.

I'm not thrilled with this prospect either, particularly because the major online players haven't acknowledged that 320KB/sec, or worse, MP3s may not be satisfactory for some consumers. The great majority will readily accept something along the lines of the 160KB/sec AVBR I recommended above. That is perfectly adequate for automotive use or with earbud-type reproducers. But those of us that live with full-range electrostatics etc. etc. will probably be wishing for something with less compromise.
Why do the files have to be on an SD card? If amazon, itunes, etc. started offering lossless files for download, wouldn't that be preferable?
Actually 33 LP are having a surge in sales

I hold it in my hands, I say, I own this. I attach to it.
I hunt it down. I uncover it. I find it. I recall it.
Pono will be selling lossless files soon, and there is a company, HDTracks, selling them now.
Here's crooked, a book and CD by Kristin Hersh. Why not a book & SD Card?
It's beautiful. It feels wonderful. Wouldn't you love to touch it?

Honestly, no. I don't really build attachments to physical objects. I don't collect action figures or other knick knacks. I've never touched my CDs since I ripped them. Don't really see the point.
These days I listen to mostly 2005+ indie rock/pop, though my CDs are a mix of 70s to early 2000s with a heavy focus on the 90s (my high school days). I bought CDs just to rip them for a few years but stopped when Amazon started offering much better prices on digital vs physical.
