CravenSpeed Cold Air Intake

Ok folks. This is one of the items I've been waiting for and Cravenspeed is first off the block with theirs.

Looks really good and should be pretty easy to install. I'll update this thread with installation pics and comments when I get it installed.

In what way does this make the inlet air colder?

HOT product!

Some comparison with the stock filter, dyno measurements and/or air inlet temperatures, would be nice to see.
But I guess people buy it anyway?

From the look of this pics, it will suck warmer air than the stock filter, doesn't it?

Sure, it will suck warmer air (though it appears the stock inlet duct is there to help feed it...) and sure, it's not a true CAI but as far as the turbocharger is concerned, that is a lot more preferable to breathing through the airbox and the intercooler ought to help somewhat.

Looks just like a typical setup you would see under the hood of a riced out Civic.

Regardless, I'd like to see dyno graph and/or number before and after.

The sound baffle is still in place behind on the pipe, so I'm curious if there's really that much change in noise.

That intake should be louder. The steel baffle is more of a heat shield if it's like most other short rams out there.

Not talking about the heat shield. There's a chamber right before the turbo behind the engine. That piece needs to be replaced with straight tubing for maximum funzee noises.

It's in the mail. Was $349.00 with free shipping. Should have some dyno info from Craven. May be on their site already.

The air is drawn in from an area north of the Arctic Circle! OK. How about a low restriction intake system?

$350.00 for that intake seems a bit high for what you're getting. I have a friend who manufactures intakes (both CAI and RAI) for Mustangs. His RAI is nicer than that one and only sells for $259.00, and it includes a non-metallic heat shield. His CAI sells for $289.00. IMO the Craven intake should include a non-metallic heat shield. Speaking of non-metallic, not good making the intake tube from metal. Everything about that intake screams HEAT. Heat that sucks power. They should have gone with non-metallic tubing.

Looks like VIP parts has one coming for $290 and NM Engineering should have one soon costing $400+ (estimated based on their last kit). I'm looking forward to see how they all compare.

A molded plastic one would be nice.

Maybe we can agree on "low restriction hot air intake" for now!

It does everything an Apple Watch (also $350 btw) won't do. I put these in the same category as the bolt on chassis brace things that go under the hood. Or a smoke shifter. Or a bacon stretcher.

Probably not a significant power gain, but it'll make awesome go fast noises.

Gains are probably minimal if any. Turbo cars don't benefit from intakes the way Naturally Aspirated cars do. As for intake temperatures, again with intercooled cars it really doesnt matter if you have a "cold air" or "hot air" intake as the intercooler is cooling the air off anyways. If you were worried about intake temps you would be better off investing in a larger intercooler than a "cold air" intake. Basically your just getting the turbo intake noise and louder bypass valve noise.
